Lesson starter Germany deserved to be punished at the end of WWI. Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer.

4 Germany had surrendered on 11/11/1918
The countries that were in the war needed to reach a peace agreement Leaders from 32 countries met in Versailles, near Paris in January 1919 to talk about peace

5 Nobody from Germany was allowed to attend
The Three most important people at the conference were known as the ‘BIG THREE’ GEORGES CLEMENCEAU WOODROW WILSON DAVID LLOYD GEORGE

6 David Lloyd George didn’t want Germany to be treated too badly
He thought this would lead to another war Most British people wanted the Germans dealt with very harshly He had to think of his people

7 Woodrow Wilson did not want to damage Germany too much
He made up ‘fourteen points’ which he thought countries could stick to in order to make peace He also wanted to set up a ‘League of Nations’ which countries would join so that they would not go to war again

8 Georges Clemenceau wanted to totally destroy Germany
Remember Germany and France were old enemies! He wanted Germany to lose all their power He also wanted Alsace and Lorraine back He wanted Germany to pay for all the damage they had caused

9 In groups, you will be given one of the ‘Big Three’ countries
You are going to make a big poster which explains what your country wants You will have an information sheet which will help you You will also be given pictures to add on to your poster You can choose what you want to use!
