Media Center Student Information Hours of Operation: 7:45 – 2:45 Any student may come to the Library Media Center (LMC) with a library pass throughout the day. Each classroom has 2 library passes so only two students can come at a time from that classroom. Students can only visit the library one time a day to check out books.

Media Center Student Rules Stay on task. Quiet, Please! The LMC is a red zone. Do not run in the hallways coming to the LMC nor in the LMC itself. Use a shelf marker. Pick up your shelf marker after your book has been checked out. Please take care of our materials. Return books on time.

Media Center Student Circulation 1 book can be checked out at a time until a students meets their A. R. Goal; then 2 books can be checked out. Books have a checkout period of one week. Books can be renewed twice. Grades 4-5 will be charged $.05 a day for books that are over a week late. Once fines reach the maximum limit, $0.50, the student cannot check out another book until the fine is paid.

Media Center Student Circulation Overdue notices are printed on Monday and will go home in Tuesday folders. Students cannot check out books until the overdue book is turned in. Students must pay for lost or damaged library books before checking out any new books. –No fine will go higher than the price of the book. See following slide for damaged book prices.

Enjoyable Fiction includes all of the picture books in the LMC. All books are shelved alphabetically by the section prefix and the first three letters of the author’s last name. Fiction includes all of the chapter books in the LMC. Nonfiction includes all nonfiction, biography, and reference books. Accelerated Reader (A. R.) Color-Codes for A. R. 1 st Grade: Green4 th Grade: Yellow 2 nd Grade: Orange5 th Grade: Purple 3 rd Grade: Pink6 th Grade and higher: Red A.R. Rewards from the LMC –Check out 2 books each time you meet your nine weeks A. R. goal and average –Attend May Movie Day when you meet your A.R. goal 3 out of the 4 nine weeks. –Attend the 100 Point Club or higher Pizza Party in May when you achieve 100 points or more –Be honored at Awards Day if you are one of the top 5 readers in your grade

Media Center Student Reminders An excellent LMC student does the following: Uses clean hands to handle books Keeps books safe at home, away from little children and pets. Shows damaged library books to the librarian Always uses a bookmark to keep his/her place in a book rather than folding page corners. Carries books home in a book bag to protect them from wet weather, dirt, and dust. Never cuts, glues, writes, or colors in a library book or throws a library book.
