Introduction Attention grabber/Hook Question, anecdote, statistics, interesting facts, etc. Background information Introduce the reader to your topic with 2-3 sentences of general information about the topic, but don’t give away any specific details yet. Thesis statement What will you focus on in your essay? Preview your reasons/paragraphs

Main idea/body ( You will need 4 of these!) Topic Sentence Transitional word/phrase State what this paragraph is about Supporting details Evidence/citations Concluding sentence Should be a total of 8-10 sentences, minimum!

Conclusion Introductory sentence restates the idea from the thesis in different words Summarize the most important elements of the essay Focus on your key points from your topic sentences Tie up key ideas that you want the reader to remember from your essay
