Community Development Organisations FAS County Enterprise Boards (CEB) Area Partnership Companies Leader 2

FAS 1. Training Provide training of skilled personnel for industry eg. Welders 2. Apprenticeships & Mentoring For people who wish to learn a trade/craft. Eg. Plumbers.

3. Recruitment Service They help match job-seekers people to suitable jobs. 4. Community Enterprise Programme Provide advise, training & grants for business start-ups.

County Enterprise Boards 1.Provide information & advice Specific to anyone setting up or expanding a small business in their county. 2. Provides grants For feasibility studies and capital costs (equipment….).

3. Provides mentoring Advises & guides people who are involved in local commercial enterprise. 4. Provides training Offers a range of business & management courses.

Area Partnership Companies 1. Promote job creation & enterprise In designated disadvantaged towns especially amongst the long term unemployed. 2. Set up partnerships Between local employers, trade unions, county counsellors and state agencies.

3. Help prepare development plans Which are similar to business plans. 4. Provide training, grants & mentoring For recruitment and enterprise skills.

Leader Is an EU funded scheme. Set up to help rural communities (outside Dublin) according to their own priorities. They do this by; Training, advice, grants.

Distinguish between Community Enterprise & State Enterprise

Community Enterprise Is when groups of people help themselves and their communities to set up new enterprises, schemes or projects in an effort to improve employment and the local social and economic infrastructure of their area. Eg. A club or youth training programme

State Enterprise Is an organisation owned, run & controlled by the government. semi-state-bodies. The government is involved in these enterprise because they are essential or too costly for the private sector. Eg. An Post, ESB

Why is Community Development needed? 1.Unemployment 2.Lack of resources 3.Poor infrastructure 4.Poor image/reputation Use the above as headings and write a few sentences about each.
