STAGE 2 IMAGE MANIPULATION.

STAGE 2 IMAGE MANIPUALTION Good image manipulation is the key to transferring your selected images/images successfully onto your screen. Images must be both black and white and high contrast if they are to burn on successfully onto your silk. Pay special attention to important details on your selected images such as faces – lack of contrast or too much contrast will result in featureless faces!!! There are lots of computer packages that you can use from basic word to photo shop and paint shop pro. You can also alter images by careful manipulation of the settings on a photocopier.

STAGE 2 - Image manipulation using Paint Shop Pro OPEN PAINT SHOP IF YOU ARE USING AN IMAGE DIRECTLY FROM THE INTERNET, IDENTIFY A GOOD QUALITY IMAGE, RIGHT CLICK COPY AND RIGHT CLICK PASTE AS NEW IMAGE INTO PAINT SHOP - OR FILE > OPEN > ALL IMAGES CAN BE ACCESSED THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON YOUR COMPUTER OR NETWORK DOUBLE LEFT CLICK ON IMAGE TO BE USED CLICK ON SQUARE TO OPEN IMAGE FULLY IMAGE -> GREYSCALE ADJUST -> BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST -> BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST CLICK ON DEFAULT IF YOU WANT TO START ALTERING THE IMAGE ROM SCRATCH OR KEEP IT ON LAST USED IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST ACHIEVED. WHEN HAPPY NOTE DOWN THE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST TO SHOW UNDERSTANDING. CLICK O.K SAVE AS IN YOUR AREA – E.G SCREEN 1 PRINT OUT THE IMAGE TO CHECK THAT THE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST IS CORRECT. IT CAN SOMETIMES LOOK DIFFERENT WHEN IT IS PRINTED. AFTER YOU HAVE ALTERED 5 OR SO IMAGES CLICK ON PRINT LAYOUT. YOU CAN NOW DRAG AND RE-SIZE YOUR IMAGES TO CREATE A COLLAGE EFFECT THAT CAN BE USED AS EXAMPLES OR MADE STRAIGHT INTO YOUR SCREEN. PRINT OUT AND SAVE – VERY IMPORTANT FILE ->SAVE TEMPLATE -> TICK THE BOX TO SAVE WITH IMAGES AND TYPE IN YOUR NAME AND ART GROUP YOU CAN ALSO DO THIS MANUALLY BY CUTTING AND STICKING YOUR HIGH CONTRAST IMAGES TOGETHER TO CREATE A COLLAGE.

STAGE 2 -Image Manipulation 3 STAGE PROCESS Colour image Black and white imageHigh contrast image Brightness – 5 Contrast - 71 Good quality coloured image Image > greyscale

Stage 2 – Image Manipulation Using Word Copy and paste your image into a word document. Double left click > Picture Image control > change to greyscale Use the brightness and contrast bar or percentage to alter your selected image. This is basic but effective. You have to be patient as you cannot see the image change before you click o.k. Use the edit button to cancel any mistakes. For a general guide for images like the one I have used, try increasing the contrast first. Alter the brightness and contrast gradually and you shouldn’t have to edit too much. Don’t forget to annotate your images. Once altered you can copy and paste them into a composition. See Stage 3

Composition – using word You can opt for a repeated screen where only one image is needed to burned onto the screen or………………………………………………………………………..

A more informal composition. This would all be burned onto the screen.

STAGE 2 PUPIL TASK SHEET Select the computer package that you are going to use for your image manipulation. Manipulate 8-10 of your selected images into greyscale then high contrast. If you are using paint shop or word, follow the instruction sheet. If you are using a collage method, print out a variety of sizes after the images have been altered. Use slide 26 as a guide and repeat with 2-3 of your own images to show your understanding of the image manipulation process. Don’t forget to annotate each stage, especially your brightness and contrast levels.

STAGE 2 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Appropriate selection of images. Successful image manipulation from colour>black and white>high contrast Images are correctly annotated. See slide 26. Thoughtful and personal analysis and evaluation of the manipulated images.
