Web 2.0 Tools Arcade Game Generator EDUC 5306: EDUCATIONAL APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY DR. JUSTIN BURRIS FALL 2015

Classtools.net…  Classtools.net is a website full of generators for customizable content, that can be used in a classroom setting to make a lesson more relatable and fun for students.  The focus of this presentation is on Classtools.net’s arcade game generator. This generator uses information you input, to create 5 different games that can be fun and educational no matter the age or grade.

What Are the Highlights?  Using the arcade game generator you can:  Have complete control over what questions and answers are provided  Access your created games from any device  Control what types of games are accessible  Create online flashcards  Use certain games as a test to gage student knowledge  Share game URL with anyone, by , text, or over social media  Ability to change any part of game(s) after creation, using your password.

Use at Home…  The Arcade Game Generator can be used as a homework assignment, where students have to use notes to generate games to use as an additional study tool.  Parent involvement could be encouraged, to create games for their student to play. Would also be way for parents to encourage learning.  Students can create custom electronic flashcards to use anywhere, anytime to study.

Use For the Teacher…  Teachers can use certain available games as a hidden assessment tool, where students think they are simply playing, but are really showing the teacher what they understand by the number of errors they make while playing. Could also be used/ taken as an official quiz grade.  Teachers can also use this as a downtime activity for students who complete class work, or where there is time for students to educationally free roam.

Use in the Classroom…  Students can be challenged to create game elements using their current knowledge. The setup requires a minimum of 10 questions and answers, and students will have to show their understanding of material to create the games without the aide of a textbook or notes.  Students can be placed in groups and assigned a game format to use, in the creation of games for other groups to play.  Overall, there are many, many ways this one generator could be adapted for use as a classroom activity! Keep in mind Classtools.net also has other custom generators as your disposal.

How is it done?...

Go to “ and on the landing page, click on the image linked to the Arcade Game Generator. From here, follow the on screen instructions to create the questions and answers.

After entering a title for your quiz, and the desired questions, you have to ability to choose if you want to limit your users to one game format, or have them all available with “free choice”. Once completed, your custom URL is created and available in the address bar on the following page, after you click “OK”. You now have 5 different educational games to play using questions you created! The custom URL can be shared anywhere, and will bring the user to the landing page pictured to the left. The game created here can be experienced by using this link: l_Changes_3twAr.htm

Live Demonstration You can play the video below to see in real time, how easy it is to create a game.
