9. Compare and contrast the fall of the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty Both had a centralized government, built roads and walls, conquered many people and had a large population. Not in Common- Rome fell apart and was never restored. Han fell apart but was restored by the next dynasty (Tang)

10. Explain the impacts of Ancient Athens and Rome on modern society. Ancient Athens- Idea of a democracy, also civic duty before individual interests. Rome- Origins of a democratic republic, also architecture (the arc, use of concrete)

12. What were the Crusades and how did they affect medieval Europe? Crusades were an attempt by Christian knights to take back the Holy Land (Jerusalem) Affect: Decline in church power, growth of the middle class, increase in trade with the Middle East, introduced new weapons to Europe

At First- church has almost total power and enormous wealth, controlled the lands around them. Acted as a stabilizing force during a time of weak governments. At the End- Because of several reasons, the church loss power and wealth to new political leaders (kings)
