LESSON OBJECTIVES WHAT WRE SOURCES OF STRESS IN THE MUSLIM WORLD? WHAT PROBLEMS DID THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE FACE? HOW DID EGYPT SEEK TO MODERNIZE? WHY WERE EUROPEAN POWERS INTERESTED IN IRAN?

QUESTION #1 EFFECT- INTERNAL REVOLTS: MULTI-ETHNIC GROUPS IN THE EMPIRE SOUGHT THEIR INDEPENDENCE. IN THE BALKINS THE GREEKS, SERBS, BULGARIANS AND THE ROMANIANS DECLARED THEIR INDEPENDENCE. REMEMBER THIS AREA BECAME KNOWN AS THE BALKIN POWER KEG!
