Presentation transcript:

 I want my athletes to be able to learn and compete competitively in game settings. I want them to become students of the game, and be able to think critically without always having to ask the coaching staff for answers. I want them to have fun playing the game they love.

 Students must maintain a 3.2 GPA for the duration of the season. If that 3.2 drops, the student athlete will attend study sessions/tables twice a week for an hour and a half until the grades return to the 3.2 mark. They will not be suspended due to the drop in grades unless the average goes below a 2.9. If that happens, the student athlete will not be allowed to compete until the grades are back to the 3.2. This goes for every player, regardless of whether they are a starter or not.

 All practices are mandatory unless it is an emergency or the athletes themselves have talked to the coaching staff about their specific situation. Coaches will decide if the situation is legitimate enough for the athlete to miss practice or not.

 NO DRINKING DURING SEASON AT ALL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!  Guilty by association: does not matter if you were drinking or not  If you are caught at a party, where alcohol is present or any other illegal substance, or coaches get word you were seen at one it does not matter if it is true or not. Automatic 5 match, or two week suspension minimum.

 The coaching staff is trained and knows what it takes to win and compete. Do not come to us and ask why your daughter is not getting playing time, or more of it. We will play the players that work hard, are dedicated to the team, and are leaders on and off the court.  If your daughter has a bad night and gets pulled, don’t come complain to any of the coaching staff. Be there for your daughter after the game, but still cheer for whoever took your daughters place in the game.

 Pre-Season: › Sprint-jog-sprints: 5 minute intervals › 4 Corners on track: exercise at each corner, sprint straights, jog curves  In-Season: › Circuit training every other practice  End of Season to Pre-Season: › On own for remainder of school year. Highly recommend doing the POWER or Acceleration programs. However, Club Volleyball in spring is mandatory.

 In Season: › Alternate lifting with circuit training. Less weight and more repetitions to maintain muscle strength  Summer and Off Season: › Work on arms, legs, shoulders, and abs to build muscle, strength and power

 From different talks that I have had with my coach, Kris Zortman, from high school, I have gathered that she leaves a lot of the off season training and conditioning to the athletes themselves. There are a few things she expects during the off season however. One, she expects that you participate in the JO Volleyball program that is held through the school. She also expects every athlete to participate in the summer camp that is held at the school. Everything else throughout the summer is up to the athlete. Her mindset is that if you put in the time during the off season, the coaches will know come regular season, who worked out over the summer and who did not. When it comes to the first day of practice, the coaching staff expects every athlete to show up fifteen minutes early for every practice. And at each and every practice, the coaches expect 110% effort from every player. All the training should be done prior to the first day of practice, so that when practices do start they can get right into working on offenses, defenses, and perfecting all the fundamentals.  A typical practice would always include the fundamentals like passing, setting, serving, and attacking. But the drills that these skills are incorporated into vary depending on the team’s performance in practice, or a game the night before. Pepper is one of her favorite drills, “you can get a really good work out if you pepper hard enough.” When I asked her about the challenges she faces she quickly replied, “The different crazy personalities that are on my team at any given time. The girls are so energetic that it is hard to get them focused sometimes. It is okay to have fun in practice, but at the right times.”
