DOSSIER PREPARATION MENTORING PROGRAM Session #3 June 17, 2014  CV and Summary Statements (feedback)  Review Teaching Statement of Endeavors and Supporting Materials  Discuss Research Statement of Endeavors and Supporting Materials (what counts as scholarship?)

Summary of Accomplishments (“Who am I”) Feedback  Should match up with what is in your CV  Include a brief summary of your research focus/professional expertise at beginning  Separate into Research, Teaching, Service, and Clinical Activities (as applicable)  Include summary of years next to each activity (especially current activities)  Service: separate Professional and University service  Add in Clinical Activities (as applicable)  Highlight your best academic and professional work and contributions

CV Feedback  Suggested to list dates by most recent at top  Be consistent with formatting  Suggested to list research/scholarship (bibliography) information first, then teaching, then service, then clinical (if applicable)  Include teaching activities and list courses taught and years taught; students mentored, etc.

CV Feedback Bibliography section:  Bold your name in each listing  Number each publication, etc to make it easier for reviewers to see your total  Start off with publications, then presentations, ending with grants

Part 4-1: Research/Scholarship Statement of Endeavors  An analysis of the quality and value (impact) of your research  Should include a description of your research interest Explain in simple terms what your research focus is Why it is of interest to you Why is it important to the University (including Department and School), the State/Region, community, field/discipline

Part 4-2: Supporting Materials BIBLIOGRAPHY Bibliography Guidelines (per Page 18 of the UH Criteria/Guidelines)  Most recent works first  Make clear division between work published/completed since your last promotion and/or tenure or since initial hire (if not promoted before) and earlier work (not at UH)  Provide statement of authorship/research norms in discipline (example: explain multiple authors, 1 st and last author, team science, collaborations)  Separate bibliography into categories which may be adapted to your discipline

Bibliography  Joint author works – should indicate estimate of your contributions (if not % at least general role)  Journal impact factors, # of citations (may include if helpful; ex: Google Scholar)  Unpublished work - accepted for publication (submit documentation: submitted, conditionally accepted, in press, etc.)  Do not include in preparation or under review (may be explained in narrative section if needed)

Publications  Scientific peer-reviewed journal publications (most significant type of publication)  Other peer-reviewed journal publications  Other non-peer reviewed journal publications  Abstracts  Books, Book Chapters  Textbooks  Electronic Media
