2 Other Supporting Materials Examples (not requirements):  Recognition of Clinical Activities such as patient thank you letters (redact patient names for confidentiality)  Recognition of scholarly work and expertise  Copies of select publications  Service recognition  Thank you letters  CV

3 Tenure vs. Promotion - Expectations  Tenure: Do you have a continued long-term need and value to the department, school, university, field? What will you do for the department, school, and university in the future; What is your long- term academic professional plan?

4 Tenure Applicants  You should include a statement of your present and future value in your Statement of Endeavors  Can be a separate section at the end of your Statement of Endeavors OR you can include a short paragraph at the end of each section in the Statement of Endeavors

5 Tenure vs. Promotion - Expectations  Promotion: How do you meet or exceed the requirements for the rank you are applying for? What have you contributed to the department, school, university, field up until this point? What are your future plans? If you have been promoted previously at UH, what have you contributed to UH since your last promotion?

6 Minimum Requirements  Make sure that you meet all minimum requirements for years of service and educational requirements  Check UH Executive Policies – Personnel Policies for minimum requirements http://manoa.hawaii.edu/ovcaa/faculty/tenure_promotion _contract_renewal/pdf/Appendix_A.pdf  You must be in current rank for a minimum of 4 years at UH before applying for promotion from the Assistant to Associate rank and from the Associate to full Professor rank

7 What if I need a waiver?  If you require a waiver of minimum requirements, please let us know, we can help you draft a waiver request  Waiver requests are due to your Chair by July 31.  Waivers must be approved by your Department Chair and the Dean  Approved waivers must be inserted into the dossier

8 Do I Meet the Criteria?  Review all applicable criteria (Department, JABSOM and UH Manoa)  Explain how you meet all applicable criteria in your Statement of Endeavors Tip: For clinical faculty, you may state how many of the examples in the table at the end of the JABSOM M-series criteria you meet to help document how you meet the criteria, example: I meet 8 out of the 10 examples in the Teaching section of the JABSOM M- series criteria.  Provide documentation to support how you meet the criteria in your Supporting Materials section

10 Criteria – Associate Professor (for both I and M faculty) Main criteria (from UH Criteria/Guidelines):  “…should be well on the way to becoming an established scholar in his or her discipline.”

11 Criteria – Professor (for both I and M faculty) Main criteria (from UH Criteria/Guidelines):  “The significance and distinction of the scholarly achievement should clearly place the faculty member at the forefront of the discipline or field.” (from UH Executive Policies – Minimum Requirements)  “…research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field”

12 TO DO BEFORE NEXT SESSION: Draft Tenure Statement of Present and Future Value (for tenure applicants only) Review and check to see that you meet all applicable criteria and minimum requirements Continue to work on draft NEXT SESSION JULY 21
