Summary of Accomplishments (“Who am I”) Feedback  Should match up with what is in your CV  Include a brief summary of your research focus/professional expertise at beginning  Separate into Research, Teaching, Service, and Clinical Activities (as applicable)  Include summary of years next to each activity (especially current activities)  Service: separate Professional and University service  Add in Clinical Activities (as applicable)  Highlight your best academic and professional work and contributions  Recommended length: 1-2 pages

3. CV Feedback  Suggested to list dates by most recent at top  Be consistent with formatting  Recommend to list academic positions separately from professional positions  Recommend to separate work, activities prior to UH

4. CV Feedback  Suggested to list research/scholarship (bibliography) information first, then teaching, then service, then clinical (if applicable)  Include teaching activities and list courses taught and years taught; students mentored, advised, etc.

5. CV Feedback Bibliography section:  Bold your name in each listing  Number each publication, etc to make it easier for reviewers to see your total  Start off with publications, then presentations, ending with grants

6. CV Tips (from Manoa Office of Faculty Development CV Workshop)  Do not include identifiers that will make it difficult for someone to be objective of you (such as age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, marital status, or health status, photo)  Leave out personal information such as Social Security Number, spouse and children names, personal hobbies and interests

CV Tips (from Manoa Office of Faculty Development CV Workshop)  20% white space, no heavy lines, 12 point font (10 point minimum), use ragged right paragraph justification, avoid leaving out articles like “the” and “a”, avoid using too many bullets, use consistent structure and formatting and same verb tense (as appropriate), avoid overuse of acronyms (spell out first time)  Your name and page number should be on every page  Although not required, if you include your CV in your dossier, insert it in Section 4 (in the “Other Supporting Materials” section)

Part 4-1: STATEMENT OF ENDEAVORS (Refer to Page 17 of the Criteria/Guidelines and Page 4.1 in Application)  Narrative section of dossier  Expand upon your “Who am I” statement  Typical areas to address (Teaching, Research, Service, and Clinical – as applicable)  Categories to address dependent on faculty classification (I, R, M, S, B), refer to application for specific areas to address – use appropriate Page 4.1  Recommended length up to 9 pages total  Suggestion: 1-3 pages per area to address  12 point font size  Guide reviewers to Supporting Materials

9. Statement of Endeavors  Narrative summary Personal statement of your unique aspects and special significance of accomplishments and value in the areas of teaching, research, service, clinical (as applicable). Analysis of your activities since your last promotion or initial hire. Direct it towards readers who are not in your field. Clearly state how you meet all applicable criteria. Tenure applicants should include a statement of future plans and future value to the University and your field.

10. Part 4-2: Supporting Materials  Include material appropriate to your faculty classification and to each section (Teaching, Research, Service, Clinical – as applicable) Such as: Teaching evaluations Bibliography Peer evaluations of contributions Service record Other: clinical activities

11. Statement of Endeavors: TEACHING Note: Instructional Activities and Research/Scholarship carry the greatest weight in your dossier.  Include a statement of your Instructional Philosophy  State the unique aspects and special significance of your teaching contributions and accomplishments

12. Supporting Materials: TEACHING Teaching activities may include: Undergraduate Graduate Medical Student Resident Fellow Post-baccalaureate (Imi-Hoola program) Post-doc training CME/CE

13. Teaching Activities  Traditional teaching (courses taught) carry the greatest weight  However, other forms of teaching may be included (especially if your formal teaching load is low).  The following activities may be included to highlight your teaching capabilities and contributions Training, Advising, Mentoring National and International teaching/training Teaching presentations to peers and community Serving on or chairing Masters thesis and PhD dissertation committees

14. Teaching Activities  Be able to explain your role in the course (especially if your are not the instructor on record)  Example: how many hours taught per course  Be able to describe any teaching activities and their significance to your professional skills and academic contributions to the school/University.

15. Supporting Materials: TEACHING (refer to page 17 of the Criteria/Guidelines)  Teaching evaluations (summaries)  Achievement of learning outcomes  List students advised and mentored; Thesis/Dissertation committees served on, students trained  Thank you letters  Special recognition (awards)  Contributions to curriculum development Materials from courses you developed Innovations in teaching or teacher training Publication of educational material (electronic publication, textbooks, etc.)

16. TO DO BEFORE NEXT SESSION: Continue to sort through Teaching, Research, Service and Clinical “folders” and select best material to include in your dossier Work on draft of Teaching Statement of Endeavors (1-3 pages) Start gathering supporting materials for teaching section (summary of teaching evaluations, teaching honors/awards, contributions to curriculum such as serving special needs, evidence of innovations in teaching or teacher training, including the development of textbooks and innovation in the publication of educational materials such as electronic publication) NEXT SESSION JUNE 23
