The Madrigal The most important kind of secular music during this time was the Madrigal A madrigal is a piece of vocal music set to the words of a poem that is usually about love.
Instruments in the Renaissance Instrumental was still not as popular as vocal music, but it did become more important than in the middle ages. Instrument music was used most often for dancing. Many new instruments were invented during this time.

Cornett- early form of the trumpet
Viols- bowed string instruments in every size.
