Health Talent 21 Project By Andre Freire

 I would use two 2 litter bottles to make a tornado in a bottle  To make the Tornado in a bottle you would need 2 cleaned- out 2-Liter plastic bottles  1 roll of duct tape  1 pen per student  water  scissors  paper towels Re-invent 2 liter bottle

 The Steps to make a tornado in a are Remove labels from the plastic bottles.  Cut a 3" x 3" piece of duct tape, and make a hole in the middle of it with the pen. (The size of the hole should be determined by the student, after they have written in their lab notebook their own hypothesis about what they think will work best to create a tornado effect in the bottle. I found that it works fine with no tape, although the demonstration is rather short. The smaller the hole, the more tight the spiral tail will be.)  Position the tape with the hole over the mouth of the bottle, and secure tightly around the sides. (See attached diagram.)  Fill the other bottle three-quarters (3/4) of the way with water (I also tried adding little bits of debris to make it look more close to a real-life simulation, and this worked all right, although the pieces must be extremely small).  Place the two mouths of the bottles together (the empty one upside-down on top of the water-filled one), and tape them carefully together with the duct tape, making sure not to leave any holes. Test for leakage by carefully rotating the bottles.  To create the tornado affect, turn the bottles upside-down so that the water should be flowing through the hole into the bottom, empty bottle. Swirl slowly to help create the funnel.  Repeat this procedure using different materials and techniques, such as different bottles, liquids, and swirling techniques, and compare the different effects between the set-ups. Look at the size of the hole in the bottle, and the difference in the vortex. Is there a change in speed in the swirling water, depending on the size of this hole? Is the swirling funnel more stable with different set-ups? Re-invent Continued

 The three R’s of the environment are reduce, reuse, and recycle  If there was a forth R I would use renew because there are a bunch of things that people can use again like a 2 litter bottle for a bird feeder The three R’s

 I can make a difference at home by keeping windows closed when the heat or air conditioning is on, take quick showers, and turn off water when brushing teeth  I can make a difference at school by carpooling to and from it, pick up trash and through it out, and ride my bike whenever possible  I can make a difference in my community by picking up trash, bring my own bag to the store, and recycle whenever possible Difference in our environment

 If the world recycled 1 ton of paper it would save 17 trees Recycling 1 ton of paper

lf half the world’s recycled paper it would save 20 million acres of trees ½ the world’s paper

 The average number of pounds of plastic thrown out yearly by Americans is 20 billion pounds Plastic thrown out yearly by Americans

 I rated Average Earth Friend and I can improve my rating by bringing my own bag to the store, riding my bike when ever possible, and encourage my family to carpool to places. Page 324 survey
