2  To produce each week's Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down.  Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the U.S.  Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1,000,000 sea creatures every year.  The average home contributes more air pollution than does the average car.  Americans consume 26% of the world’s energy.  From 2008 to 2030, world energy consumption is expected to increase more than 55%  83% of the world's air pollution comes from the production and use of electricity.  Recycling one glass jar saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours.

3  Reverse your fan blades. This will help keep your house warm and use less energy.  Turn off the water faucet while you brush your teeth.  Turn off the lights in your home while you are gone to save energy.  Use CFL lightbulbs.  Check for drafts, and open windows.  Don’t leave the refrigerator door open for a long period of time.  Use a programmable thermostat.
