The North Carolina Colony Joshua Garcia Jeremiah Jagroo

Early Carolina  North Carolina became a royal colony in 1729.

Economy  The economic activities of North Carolina consisted of naval supplies, tobacco, and furs.  The Pine Forests were used for ship building.  Pitch and Tar were used to secure ships.

Society Women in Southern society, as in the North, endured second-class citizenship. They could not vote, preach, or own their own property. Women in Southern society, as in the North, endured second-class citizenship. They could not vote, preach, or own their own property. Prosperous Plantation owners controlled much of the south economy as well as its political and social institutions. Slavery  People who were enslaved in North Carolina made up 30% of its population.  Most people were “Yeoman”.  By 1690, about 13,000 slaves were working in the southern colonies. Then by 1750, the number of slaves had increased to around 200,000.

Indenture in NC o North Carolina didn’t have as many indentured servants as other colonies. o Indentured servants had 7 years of service and then they were free. o They had to be taught to read, write and trade in North Carolina.

North Carolina Expands  Population increases from (30,000 to 265,000)  English settlers, German immigrants, Scots and Scots-Irish settled in the South.
