Lets Review: A Clause is a unit of grammatical organization next below the sentence in rank and in traditional grammar said to consist of a subject and predicate. Independent Clause is the main clause: a clause in a complex sentence that can stand alone as a complete sentence. Dependent Clause is a subordinate clause: a clause in a complex sentence that cannot stand alone as a complete sentence and that functions within the sentence A subordinate clause, is typically introduced by a conjunction, that forms part of and is dependent on a main clause (e.g., “when it fell”) A Conjunction is a joiner, that connects words of a sentence. (and, or, but)

What is a simple sentence? A sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and predicate. Example 1: The boy fell. Subject: Boy Verb: Fell Example 2: Bob and Joe play basketball every afternoon. Subject: Bob; Joe Verb: Play

Example: I tried to play basketball and my friend tried to play football. Subjects: I; Friend Verbs: tried; tried Coordinator: and

What is a Complex Sentence? A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses. Subject: he; he Verb: handed; forgot Subordinators: When;,
