Cataract Park 5

Weather  Sydney in January is known for its hot weather, with temperatures reaching 30° to 35° Celsius for prolonged periods of time. It can also be rainy at this time of year so make sure you bring wet weather gear (light weight!!!!).  At all times, all Jamboree participants must remember to Slip, Slop and Slap by wearing a high protection sunscreen, hat and shirt.  Of an evening, Cataract Park can become fairly chilly. Although temperatures are unlikely to drop to significant lows, the change from the heat of the day can make the evenings feel cooler than they often are. It is advisable therefore to ensure you have adequate clothing to accommodate hot days and cool nights. 6

Gear  Tonight:  Victorian Contingent Shirt  Jamboree wheeled bag  Jamboree backpack  2 Jamboree Luggage Tags  2 Victorian Contingent Badges  1 small AJ2016 shirt badge  1 hand sanitiser  1 drink bottle  Troop Camp:  Troop Shirt  Troop Badges  Jamboree:  Jamboree Shirt  Jamboree Hat  Jamboree Scarf 7

Uniform and clothing  All Victorian Contingent Members travelling to the and from Jamboree will be required to wear the Victorian Contingent T- Shirt  At the Opening and Closing ceremonies everyone will wear their normal Scout uniform with Jamboree Scarf  When we visit offsite activities we go as Jamboree ambassadors – Jamboree hat, shirt and scarf.  At all other times – including the area surrounding the Jamboree site – you dress Sun smart … hat, sunscreen, etc, but otherwise it’s up to you. 8

Stretchers Apart from the obvious comfort factor, this also sets the individual boundaries within the sleeping area and allows for storage of luggage beneath. These must be regular size, NOT jumbo We will be putting these in the crates, so we will collect them at the Troop Camp 9

Sleeping Arrangements  I n accordance with the policies of the Victorian Branch, the Victorian Contingent policy regarding sleeping accommodation at the Jamboree is:  Separate tents will be provided for and used by youth members/adults and girls/boys  All members of a Troop will be accommodated within a designated area although separate male and female tents will be provided for each mixed gender patrol  We will be sleeping in Canvas Tents. 10

Cutlery and Crockery  In order to reduce the risk of food poisoning from poorly cleaned crockery, Troop C430 will be providing melamine plates, bowls, and mugs and stainless steel cutlery.  Between meals, Troop cutlery and crockery will be stored in weak disinfecting solution. 11

Getting there …  Arrive departure point: 7.30pm. Go to the toilet before leaving home!  We will leave in our Troop bus at 8.30pm on January 2nd  You will each need your boarding pass to board the bus  We will arrive at Cataract Park at approx. 8am January 3rd and then walk our gear to our campsite  Our crates of equipment will already be there 12

Back again  We will leave Cataract Park after Closing Ceremony on January 13  Independent travellers to be picked up at pm January 13  We will arrive back at departure point 14 th Jan. at approx. 9am  Check the arrival times by clicking on the red bus  We might be home early! 13

Leaving times for offsite activities  When a patrol leaves for an offsite activity, they must be at the bus collection point at specific times to enable the departure of 100’s of scouts to progress smoothly  The times to be at the bus point are:  Sydney City activity – am  Jamberoo theme park – am  Water activities – am These times are after finishing breakfast with a packed lunch 14

Visiting Jamboree  If you are going to visit on Visitors Day:  You need to book, pay and print out your pass before coming   You will need to bring all food, seats and other requirements  You will park outside on the road as there will be no space in the car parks  You will need to walk to the front gate and then through to our campsite  There will be a lot of walking so you will need to be prepared for that 15

Jamboree  C430 Microsite - we’re happening!  Access through MyScout using a Scout registration number  Phone  Public phones will be available but busy!  JamboGrams  These are like e telegrams. Their use is not confirmed as yet  Letters addressed to: Full Name Victorian Contingent Troop C430 24th Australian Jamboree Baden Powell Drive Appin NSW

Absences from Camp Approval  Scouts may need to leave the camp during the Jamboree for a number of personal reasons. In these special circumstances, Scouts must have approval from the Victorian Contingent and the JTL.  This approval will only be given with prior written authority from the Scout’s parents/guardians.  These arrangements must be made before the Jamboree by submission of the appropriate form. 17

We’ll get tired!!  Have you ever tried to listen to music when the batteries in your MP3 or iPod player are flat? How useful is a torch with flat batteries?  On a normal weekend camp, do you like to stay up really late talking to your friends? On a Monday after a camp are you sometimes too tired to go to school?  At the Jamboree there is no Monday off.  You will need to keep active for 10 days so as not to miss any of the fun.  Since we will be getting up at 6.00 or 6.30am, to get the 8 hour sleep we will need to recharge our batteries we will need to be in bed (with lights out) by 10.00pm. 18
