1 CAMP GERONIMO Troop 141 June 10-17 2006 Departure Information Packing Considerations Overview of the Week and Photos Coming Home You should have one copy of the merit badge signup, merit badge prerequi- sites, and the personal health and medical record

2 IMPORTANT Medical Information All boys must have their medical form on file prior to departing! Same for adults staying all week If the boys require medication, ensure the adult in charge of meds knows what to do

3 Departure Information Friday, June 9 th –Pack the Trailer between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., at the troop shed at TVLC –All troop equipment will be packed, –As well as personal equipment that is ready –Packing your stuff Friday evening will make the next day go much more smoothly!

4 Departure Information - 2 Saturday, June 10 th –Show up at troop shed between 6:30-6:45 a.m. –Throw any personal equipment you didn’t pack Friday in the troop trailer –We want to be on the road by 7:00 –It takes longer than you think to pack the trailer and say good-bye to your boy! –Scouts should wear the Class B uniform to travel in but bring the Class A shirt in the car

5 Departure Information - 3 –We will put boys in cars and head to camp via I-10 to U.S. 60 to AZ 87 to Payson –About 4 1/2 hours to Payson –Stop at rest area south of Payson to eat. Bring a bag lunch! –Change into uniform shirt at the same time –Then travel ~ 45 minutes to Camp Geronimo

6 Departure Information - 4 If you want to drive your boy to camp –Kindly coordinate with Mr. Brock several days prior to camp! We may need drivers. –You MUST be on our tour permit, which means we need your car/driver information on our roster –If you are coming from another location, let us know –If you will be staying one or more nights, let us know! Bring your own cot/sleeping bag, etc. May eat in dining hall on per-meal basis

7 Packing Considerations The list you were given is fairly complete Other things to consider: –The boys will be able to swim every day –Showers are available, but no guarantee the boys will use them –It will probably be dry, which means dusty, and Geronimo is covered with red dirt –High temperatures around 90 o, lows about 50 o

8 Packing Considerations-2 –The boys will be required to wear their complete uniform at least once each day –Bring a cot (can buy at WalMart or Popular), pillow, and sleeping bag –Bring a backpack if you have one (the boys will hike about a half mile on Day 1 to the campsite) –Work gloves will be helpful –Send spending money in $5 bills if possible –We MUST have your medical form before we depart!

9 Overview of the Week Saturday –Move in and orient to camp –First dinner in the Dining Hall Sunday –Three meals in the Dining Hall –Chapel in the morning –Swimming test

10 Overview of the Week-2 Monday-Friday –Wake up around 6:00 –Get dressed, clean up camp and tents –Go to breakfast (flag ceremony first) –Then straight to merit badge classes –Lunch –More merit badges (for some), free time for most

11 Overview of the Week-3 –Dinner as a troop, after flag lowering ceremony –Dinner is always in Class A uniform –After dinner, night hikes or campfire depending on the day –In bed by 10:00 (we hope) Saturday –Breakfast as usual –Pack up, probably on the road by 9:30

12 Additional Activities Mile Swim Night Orienteering (Cateye trails) Tenderfoot run Polar Bear swim Duty to God “I did it all” Big G Gold

35 Coming Home Stop for lunch (in Phoenix area, we give the boys $5 each-you’ve already paid it) Arrive at TVLC around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday Will phone about an hour prior to arrival All boys must help unload the trailer If you want to come up to camp on Saturday to drive boys home, you MUST be in camp no later than 9:00 a.m! (Plan on four or more hours to get to camp.) Don’t forget you need to be on our Tour Permit!
