 Choose your seat wisely!  Write down your homework and leave it out to be stamped by me! You should use the temporary agenda calendar for all of your classes until you get your agenda.  Please get a notebook out that you will designate to use ONLY for science!  Please pick up one of each of the items on the side counter.  Please copy the 8 th grade schedule onto the back of YOUR class schedule so you know where you are going today!

 Choose your seat wisely!  Write down your homework and leave it out to be stamped by me! You should use the temporary agenda calendar you received in homeroom for all of your classes until you get your agenda.  Please get a notebook out that you will designate to use ONLY for science!

 You can chose your seat for right now, please sit there every day.  Once I feel that the class can no longer handle choosing their own seats I will make a seating chart…it will happen eventually  If YOU can not handle sitting in the seat you chose or near the people next to you, move before I move you.

 Schedules, lunch ID’s, Parent Log/Lab Safety Contract, Supply List, How am I Getting Home…make sure you have all of these things and you can begin to fill them out while I take attendance!  Quick Room Tour  Syllabus, Rules & Expectations  Getting organized - Interactive Notebook Set-up  The Mystery of the Swirling Milk Lab!  Explanation of Homework: Science Research Brochure  Ms. Sarnelli’s name quiz

 Review of Scientific Method  Intro to Chemistry Concepts Why is the milk moooving?

 You just witnessed a chemical reaction! The secret of the swirling colors is within the chemistry of that tiny drop of soap. Dish soap, because of its bipolar characteristics, weakens the chemical bonds that hold the proteins and fats in the milk. The soap's water- loving end dissolves in water, and its water-fearing end attaches to the fat globules in the milk.  The molecules of fat move in all directions and the soap molecules race around to join up with them. The food coloring molecules are also bumped all over the place, providing an easy way to observe an otherwise invisible activity. As the soap becomes evenly mixed with the milk, the action slows down and eventually stops.

 Food coloring goes back in the box and back up to the front counter  Q-tips go in the garbage  Pans need to be rinsed thoroughly  Soap can be reused  Set the pan with the cup of soap in it on the front counter where you got them from  Replace the Q-tips

 Let’s read over the expectations for the homework and decide what science means to YOU!

 Homework: ◦ Lab Safety Contract/Parent Log for next class ◦ Read & highlight syllabus for next class ◦ Bring your phone next class so we can go over BYOT expectations ◦ Science Brochure – A-day due Wednesday 9/3, B-day due Thursday 9/4  Any questions???  Ms. Sarnelli’s name quiz (if we have time) Have a great day!
