Science – Mr. Frey – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Computers – Ms. Hughes - Tuesday Gym – Mr. Yaruzzo - Thursday Art – Ms. Spears - Mondays

Assigned every night- including weekends! Homework is posted Mrs. Patafio’s web page. Reading every night Monday thru Friday and either Saturday or Sunday for at least 30 minutes/25 pgs. This amount will rise throughout the year. Also, short responses will be required during the week. Math is usually 2 pages that correspond to the day’s lesson. Writing – most days to continue the work in class. Social Studies/ Science TBD

Based on positive reinforcement PAWS for good behavior Students must actively participate all day in order to get PAWS Missing homework results in clipping down and signing the book.

This year 5 th grade will be following the Teachers College Reading and Writing Curriculum. Read Aloud Close reading Model skills for students Students practice skills based on texts read aloud and in their own independent reading. Partnerships and Book Clubs will be an important part of growing as readers. Reading band for fifth grade is STUV

Set up a quiet, comfortable place to read Talk to your child about the books they are reading. Choose just right books in fiction and non- fiction (Not just the popular books). Visit your local library where they can read magazines.

Students will write every day between home and school. Establish a structure with a beginning, middle and end. Develop strategies for editing and revising written pieces. Develop pieces appropriate to tasks and audience. Produce the following: Narratives Persuasives – opinion and argument Informational

Go Math Problem of the day Modeled instruction on skill Brief activity in pairs/ groups to practice skill Activity to develop the skill (pairs/groups/independently)

Strengthen problem solving skills Strengthen basic multiplication and division skills Develop computational skills based on: decimals; fractions; area; perimeter; volume; circumference and geometry Explain their strategies through speaking and writing Students must learn their times tables. If your child does not know their tables, they must practice them at home every night for at least 10 minutes.

Use flash cards to review addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts daily. Play Math Games at home War Top IT Drill and Practice Sheets Always show your work This will help your child see where they made an error. DAILY PRACTICE IS STRONGLY RECOMMMENDED!!! Please continue to review the times tables.
