NIKOSTRATOS TASK 1: TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF ARCHANGELOS EXPLORES THE ITALIAN INFLUENCES IN FOOD

HISTORY OF PASTA Both Greeks and Romans cooked something like today 's pasta but this was baked and not boiled. We first learn about pasta in ancient Greece around 1000 B.C; the word laganon described a kind of dough made of water and flour that was cut into strips. In the 8 th century B.C the first Greek settlers took this recipe to Italy. It was renamed laganum in Latin and it is today 's lasagne! This fact is certified by Latin writers Cicero, Horatius and Apicius who wrote the first recipe food and describes meals with laganum.

PASTA IN ANCIENT ROME But the first evidence is found in 4 th century B.C Etruscan wall paintings in the north of Rome. In these paintings we can see utensils for boiling water and mixing flour and water, rolling pins and a tool to cut pasta.

PASTA IN GREECE NOWADAYS Nowadays, pasta is one of the most popular foods in the world. In Rhodes and Archangelos, a kind of homemade pasta is served on wedding days. It is called koulouria. RECIPE To make the pasta you need flour and water. Knead the dough, roll it with a rolling pin and cut it into strips. Let the pasta dry. You can also cook it immediately. Boil the pasta in chicken broth. You have to stir it. Fry some butter in a pan. When the pasta is ready, add the butter. Serve some pasta in a plate. Sprinkle some cheese and enjoy. Watch the video and see how it is made!
