Exceptions? November Conference week, Snow make-up day, last day of school, state testing week. Breakfast is available at 8:40 HEALTHY snack time: 10:15 PLEASE NO NUTS IN THE CLASSROOM!

ACCOUNTABILITY  Take Home Folders-check every day, especially Fridays-they should ALWAYS have Assignment Sheets in them-check for homework!  Long term calendars also ‘live’ in Take Home Folders  Binders-stay at school. Browse through them  Weekly Reports & Missing Work Reports  Fun Friday-positive incentive

Individualized Instruction Means:  Content goals are standardized but students’ individual growth is the main focus.  Valuing family background and cultural values  Social & emotional needs COINCIDE with academic development -PLEASE- Write down anything I should know about your child!

Major Units of Study Refer to the Tri-Fold Math-Multiplication/division, fractions, geometry, graphing, algebra, multi-step problem solving Science –Ecosystems, salmon, Models & Designs, Pure Science Investigations (Variables), Systems/Energy Forms, Engineering and Design

MATH ASSESSMENT  Workbooks and journals used daily to assess specific skills  Weekly quizzes (cumulative review)  Unit Tests  Basic math fact timings  Performance tasks, including science integration  SBAC in the spring tests Common Core State Standards

SCIENCE ASSESSMENT  Journals  Ongoing content quizzes  Group projects/presentations  Inquiry/experiments/investigations  Unit tests on content (Ecosystems, Models and Designs, Variables)  MSP in May-covers ALL science content and skill up to 5 th grade

SOCIAL STUDIES & HEALTH  State required the Classroom Based Assessment for both subjects-Revolutionary War and Nutrition  Classroom assessments consist of quizzes and unit tests as appropriate-see projects section of handout

 Health-Body Systems, nutrition, hygiene, drugs/alcohol, Family Life, Second Step CBA ASSESSED AREAS  Social Studies-5 th Grade: States & Capitals, European Explorers, U.S. History (focusing mostly on American Revolution),

LITERACY  90 Minute block each day  Integrates Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Technology, Teamwork, and other subject areas.  Units of Study:  Comprehension Toolkit w/non-fiction (TFK, National Geographic)

READING ASSESSMENT  Most valuable assessment is classroom based, ongoing  Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark System (BAS)  SRI measures vocabulary & gives a lexile score  Comprehension responses show achievement of specific skills and require going back to the text for quotations/proof of understanding and vocabulary.
