5 Magazine Articles By: Nelson Parker

Advertisement #1 In this advertisement for Three Olives Vodka, you can see a cow girl sitting comfortably in the martini glass. Only three olives are being fully shown on the bottle, are they merely asking the question: If we drink this whole bottle, will we be able to sneak a peak at the other olive? The category of this advertisement is alcohol, selling the product to the right customer. The formula for this advertisement is, drinking this type of alcohol would get you not only the satisfaction of a buzz but the satisfaction of a woman. The woman in the ad is being portrayed not as a one night stand but as someone who will give a good time during the night and satisfy your needs to be free. Although this character is dressed in short shorts and showing a lot of legs, she is someone who you would be able to find in a western bar, so yes she is realistic. The character looks in her mid twenties, female, Caucasian and her class would be in the middle to high levels. The values of this advertisements are needs of comfort and happiness. The momentary satisfaction of someone for a short amount of time to rescue us from our boring lives with a possibility of more. When I look at this text, the woman in the martini glass is very appealing to me. It catches my eye and then I begin to read the ad. The things I like about this ad is the colour. My favourite colour is red and black and the ad uses the colours very well. The things that I don't like about this ad is the way they present the woman in the picture. They are making her presented in a sexual way and just because she drinks alcohol, its making you think that you can take advantage of her. The intended target audience are the mid 20’s to late 30’s. When looking at this text, the first thing that you would see is the woman in the glass and the second you see is the actual product being advertised. Companies use models to advertise their products to draw in the audience and make them believe a fantasy with this model. If men would look at this ad, they would think if they drink this drink, this woman stereotype will pop out of the bottle and pleasure them. When women look at this ad they think if they dress this way and act the way she is, the men will come and surround them with their affection. To make this text more enjoyable, you could have the woman having a drink of the product and looking like she enjoys it. This text comes from the three olives vodka industry and created by the vodka family. This product is imported from the New Kingdom and Proximo Spirits owns it. This product has a web site and address for additional information. Proximo Spirits profits from the products sold. This text was made by graphic design on the computer and the woman in the glass was photo shopped in. Making a similar advertisement will not be as hard as you think. You could get a good looking woman and take a picture of her in front of a green screen. Then you can take a picture of a martini glass up close. Once you have both of those, you photo shop the girl to fit in the glass. Add some text and add the background colour. Once you have all that, add the product being advertised. Adding testimonials or endorsements to the ad.

Advertisement #2 In this advertisement for Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen, you see a woman who appears to be naked and has a sunset scene as her body. The woman in the advertisement is sun tanning and the story behind the advertisement is, rubbing sunscreen on this woman will make her feel so good. The category of this advertisement is sunscreen, selling the product to the right customer. The formula for this advertisement is, rubbing this sunscreen on a woman will make her feel good and make her want you. This advertisement is trying to imply satisfaction to a woman is key for the all access pass. The woman in this ad is being portrayed as needy and wanting the satisfaction of a man. Although you cannot see her face or what race she is, anyone who looks at this ad can just imagine their own type of woman to satisfy. Since you cannot see her, she is not realistic and she is mostly a stereotypical woman in your dreams. Since you cannot see what she looks like, she could be any age and any race. The character is obviously a woman but you cannot see anything else about her. The values of this advertisement is fantasy, picturing you best fantasy on the woman’s body. You cannot notice what she looks like, so you are to fantasize what she would look like and picture the two of you on the beach in Hawaii while you are putting sunscreen on her body. This text comes from a magazine article in a fashion magazine from The text was created by Hawaiian Tropic sun protection. This text is distributed to the audience through magazines and they are sold at many stores throughout the world during the summer season. The owner of the product profits and so does the company who helped advertise the product to the world. This text was made by taking a picture of a model and adding a sunset scenery as her skin. The text was added later along with the picture of the product. Creating a similar text would be getting a model to pose and remove her skin and put a sunset background or a very similar background. Taking a picture the product and pasting it on the ad and add the writing to explain what the add is. This text appeals to me because the girl laying in the ad has a sunset scenery background as her body. Having this type of advertising will attract people because the model first as if she is naked. The intended audience is men and woman around sunny areas. This text appeals to its audience because your first attention goes to the naked woman lying at the top of the advertisement. The text written on the ad is very creatively written. Some people could look at this text and think they are trying to sell lotion and the model looks naked. They could also think that this ad was selling sex. To make this text more enjoyable, you could have a model on the beach applying the sun screen or actually lying on the beach and actually seeing what she looks like.

Advertisement #3 This text appeals to me by having the product big and in front of everything so it stands out more. Having the title in big bold letter helps get the attention of the reader. The intended target audience for this advertisement is men and women since the product is meant for both. This text appeals to its audience by having two good looking people walking along together on a beach after they appear to just surfed together. The slogan along the middle says, “For all the ways you play.” This text means that people can do more things that are fun when you smell really good. Some people could take the ad and use it in a sexual manner because the models are half naked and the slogan says, “For all the ways you play.” I would change this text by making the models doing something else than just walking on a beach with a surf board. Also, if the guy has a surf board then the girl should also have a surf board to make it look like they were actually moving. In this advertisement for Adidas move, you see a man and a woman walking on the beach with a surf board. The couple in this ad are smiling a having a good time on the beach together. The category of this advertisement is fragrance, selling the product to the right customer. The formula for this advertisement is, wearing this type of fragrance will make you feel better because you feel better and begin to hang out with good looking people. The characters in this ad look like typical surfers hanging on a beach. The guy looks like the typical surfer guy you would find in a movie, so he seems stereotypical. The girl in this ad looks like a college girl hanging out on march break. She seems more realistic than the guy does. They both look like they are in their early 20’s. There is one male and one female. They are both white and seem like middle class people walking on the beach. There does not seem like there is over powering to one character. The values of this advertisement is happiness when with someone you care for a lot. Looking at the characters in this ad, you can see that they both are enjoying themselves with each other. This text comes from a sports illustrated magazine from This text was created by the company of adidas and this company owns it. This text is distributed to the public by the media. One example of that would be in a sports magazine. Also it is distributed to the media at different malls as test samples. The company who created the product would profit from this ad as well as the advertising companies and malls who helped get the product sold. This text was made by getting the model to stand in front of a beach background. The writing and products picture would have been added over top of the main picture of the ad. I would create the ad by using to similar models and adding the products picture over top and adding the writing.

Advertisement #4 This text appeals to me because the colours being used are very noticeable and bright to get the attention of the audience. Since the ad is for jeans, the intended audience for this ad would be men and women because both men and women are wearing the jeans. First, this text is very bright with the colour which helps get the readers attention. Second, the body language of the models tells people that they have chemistry on screen. Many people can portray this text as being very relaxing for the models. You can see that the models in this ad are having a very good time together. They are leaning back and having a lot of fun. Having jeans that fit will get you to have as much fun as the models show. To make this text more enjoyable you could add more people to it and show them having as much fun as the two models are. This text comes from a fashion magazine from This text was created by an advertising company to promote the pants. L2 owns this ad because they are trying to sell more of their products. This text is distributed to the public by an ad in a magazine. Many people profit from this advertisement. The owner of the product gets some profit and so does the owner of the advertisement company. This text was made by taking a photo of the models together in front of a green screen. Adding the product symbol to the corner and adding a green background and a yellow flooring. Producing a similar text won’t be that hard. Getting two models in front of a green screen and adding a background to that. In this advertisement, you a man and a woman having fun together in front of a green background. The guy is holding the girl from behind, so are they saying that if you wear very comfortable jeans, you can play more and have some fun doing it. The category for this advertisement is jeans, selling the product to the right customer. The formula for this advertisement is, wearing these jeans will get you some play time with a companion you have strong feelings towards. The characters in this ad look like they are middle class citizens around the age of late 20’s to early 30’s. There are both a man and a woman who are black. The characters in this ad are realistic because they look like the typical citizen that could see walking around wearing these pants. The man in this ad a is touching this woman on her hips. The face expression of the both is of joy and lust. The values of this advertisement are needs of being comfortable when wearing these jeans and having someone be with you at a moment of joy and lust.

Advertisement #5 This text comes from a fashion magazine. It was created by the company of John Frieda. The company of John Frieda also owns this advertisement. This text is sold to the public in the form of a magazine article. The magazine company and the owner of the company both profit form this ad being sold and the products being sold. This text was made by taking a photo of the product and pasting it behind a white screen. The text was added later to explain what the product is. The twin girls were added as a full shot to show the hair colour you will be getting if you dye your hair. To produce a similar text, I would get 2 blonde girls and use them to sell the ad but I would not have two pages of an ad. I would place them in the first page of the ad and just make them smaller to fit in with the writing and the product. When I look at this advertisement, I see that there are two girls with blonde hair. What I don’t like about this ad is that they are saying blondes are cooler than all the other hair colours. The thing that I like is that there is two blonde haired girls standing together to show that double the blondes is even better. The intended audience for this advertisement is women who are different colour of hair then blonde. This text appeals to its audience because they are persuading people to turn their hair colour blonde and saying that if you were blonde, you would be cool. Some people could read this text and think that everyone is not cool if they are blondes so that’s why you should change your hair colour. I would change this ad by getting rid of one blonde girl and add a girl who has every other hair colour. Then I would change the writing by putting all the hair colours are cool not just one. In this advertisement for hair care, you see two twin blonde girls posing together. The women in this advertisement are posing for blonde hair care and the ad says that “golden rules”, so the ad is saying that blonde hair is better way to go. Some say that blondes have more fun. The category for this advertisement is hair dye and trying to sell the product to more people so they can turn blonde. The formula for this advertisement is saying that blondes have more fun than anyone else and trying to get everyone to turn blonde. This ad is trying to imply that being blonde will get you A’s and be more popular with everyone. The characters in this ad are realistic because they are advertising blondes and these girls are actually blonde. These characters in the ad are female and look identical. They also look in their early 20’s. These characters are Caucasian and seem to be in the middle class. You could probably find these types of girls around a college campus or university. The values of these characters is innocence and vulnerability. Having the face of someone innocent but having the feelings of needing someone to comfort them.
