2. W HAT IS AN IDENT ? Idents are also known as station identification, channel id and logos. They can be symbols on the TV screen while programmes are on in the corners to show viewers what channel they are on or they can be what are known as bumpers. Each ident is different. Bumpers are adverts just before or after TV shows they are often used to advertise shows or introduce them before they start. Bumpers all three station, channel and show idents.

3. S KY ’ S IDENT I feel that this ident is successful as it is diverse and unique compared to other indents for television stations. This makes the ident stand out and become memorable to the viewers. I also like the use of colour as it is a good use of contrast. Lastly I think it is easy to link this ident to the other idents related to sky such as sky 1’s channel ident which is helpful to viewers as they can link all the sky stuff together.

4. BBC’ S IDENTS I think that this ident is very dull and boring which will cause viewers to forget it easily. The ident is very similar to the other bbc idents like the channel ones which is good for viewers to realise they all go together and there all part of one station. It isn't often you get unsuccessful idents as they are often cut out and not aired on TV but in my opinion this is unsuccessful as it doesn't stand out and grab the viewers attention. But it is appropriate to most shows aired on the bbc such as the news.

5. ITV’ S IDENTS This is the itv station ident. I think that this ident contrasts with colours and is simple but creative at the same time. I like the use of a dark background and then brighter colours in the writing. I also think the way the colours change through the letters is quite interesting to look at. This will all help the viewers remember the ident as it is unique and doesn't follow with the usual ident design. I dont think that the design of this ident is similar to the itv channels idents as it is more colourful and the letters are curvy instead of solid but you can tell the idents link together because each one uses the word ‘itv ’.

6. G OLD ’ S IDENT This ident has been used to advertise the new series of ‘outnumbered’. This ident would be shown, in- between other shows on this channel just before the adverts, leading up to the start date of this series to make viewers aware of the new series. It also gives an insight of what the new series will include. I think this ident is successful as it gives viewers that are interested in the show a chance to add a reminder to their tv planners so they don't miss it. This is known as a ‘trailer ident’. I feel that this ident is successful as it draws the audience in by showing a few short clips from the new serious which I think will grab the viewers attention and gain there interest to watch the advertised series. I also think that the advert give only key information the viewers need such as the time and date the series starts and the channel name and numbers for each sky and virgin. It also shows the channel logo in big appearing onto the screen which i think will remain memorable in the audiences head so they don't forget by the time it comes to finding the show when it starts

7. BBC 3’ S IDENT This is an example of one of the many idents used on BBC 3. This particular ident is use to inform the viewers of the upcoming show’s that day/night. This ident usually has a voice over with someone saying ‘now on BBC 3 is’. This is helpful to viewers as it gives them awareness of the next show, so if they don't want to watch it they can change channels, it can also give them chance to decide if its an appropriate show for everyone watching e.g. Parents can tell if its a show they want there children watching. This is know as a ‘intro ident’. I feel that this ident could be more snappy and to the point I feel that the beginning animation is irrelevant and doesn't really grab the audience in to listen. I feel the information given could be more straight forward to the audience as it includes jokes about the following programmes which could be considered unnecessary and sometimes are spoilers as to what is going to happen in the show. This could be considered as interacting to the viewers by giving them little information about the show and making them want to find out the rest but i feel that this will not be the case with over half the viewers.

8. C HALLENGE ’ S IDENT This ident has been used to advertise to the viewers that they are watching the late night programs on this channel. This is useful to viewers as it will also alert them that the programs shown when this ident is are most probably inappropriate for younger viewers. It allows them to expect strong language, sexual and violent footage which would not be shown in day time tv. I feel that this ident is designed in a useful way as it is straight to the point giving only the important information the viewers need which is the fact the following programs may included strong language and scenes of violence which is said along with what the following programmes title is in the voice over. The ident is also short and will not bore the viewers which is a good things as if it was long it may put them of watching this channel in the future. I think this ident also interacts with the viewers by having the wall crash apart at the beginning as that makes them alert to listen to the message given.

9. L OOSE WOMEN ’ S IDENT I think that this ident is good at relating to the show. This is because the show is a chat show and there logo simple is a speech bubble which is all the show is really about, speaking and discussing things, then it also has the shows title. Although this is a basic ident i think it is still quite successful and memorable to the audience because it is so relevant to the show. Also i think the ident being bland and simple is good at attracting the correct audience the show aims to. The purpose of this ident is to make the show stick in the viewers mind. This ident would be used in bumper that introduce and advertise the show to tell the viewers what the bumper is about, it would also be seen on box sets/dvds of the show and sometime throughout the show. This ident is useful to the viewers as a lot of people would remember things they have seen and that have stood out which this ident does.

10. H OW TO LOOK GOOD NAKED ’ S IDENT I feel this ident is a bit inappropriate to the show in some sense as it seems more appealing to an adult audience but i think the show also interests a audience of teens and young adults. I think the colours used are complimenting to the show as they seem to be more girly. Also the way in which the ident uses the blacked out girl looking nude it also gives away what the show is about and kind of tells you the idea behind the show which is to help women feel good naked and that by the end of the show the woman wont want to be stood in the dark. The purpose of this ident is to advertise the show to the correct audience which i feel it does not. I think the ident is slightly applying more to the older audience than there younger audience. It is important idents that are used to attract the right age group are correct otherwise the show may not be as popular as it should.
