Phylis wheatley Phylis Wheatley was born in Africa on Dec.5,1753. Her overcoming troubles was that she was sold to slavery.

She was famous because she was a famous black poet. She learned English really quick. Published her first poem at age 17! John Peters was her 1 husband that we know of! It’s sad that she died at the age 31.
