2. SUMMARIZE 1st. Section Gwendolyn Brooks was the first black person to win the Pulitzer Prize. 2nd. Section Brooks was born in Chicago. She had published 75 poems. She started maiking up rhymes at an early age. 3rd. Section Gwendolyn Brooks wrote about Bronzeville. She got married and had two children. Her first book came out in 1945.

3. 4th. Section Brooks felt poetry should be read out loud. She loved to read her poems in prisons, schools, housing projects and hospitals. 5th. Section She went to a meeting in 1967 where she discovered the Black Arts Movement. She was very proud of being African American. She didn’t want people to be treated unfairly.

4. 6th. Section Brooks became important in the Black Arts Movement. She preferred her books to be printed by African American printers. She ran poetry contests and workshops in schools and in prisons. 7th. Section Brooks kept writing for children. She advice young poets to talk about their own lives. She won numerous awards. She fulfilled her dream of helping others.
