Leadership and Learning Styles

 Strong sense of bottom line.  Figures out the #’s.  No nonsense- “My way or the highway”.  They hear their voice only.  People follow them because they are afraid.  Intense, detail oriented.  They refuse compromise and are hardheaded.  Gets the job done!!!!

 Leads by imagination and intuition.  They have vision of the “big picture”.  Invites others to share, originality and creativity.  Shows emotion and laughter.  Unpredictable, goes after new ideas.  Found in social or professional locations.  Goes along just to be part of the unique possibilities.

 Has common sense and integrity.  Is trusted, is well balanced and an excellent listener.  Caring, logical person who values getting the job done!!!  Refuses to sacrifice peoples feelings and views.  Predictable (has it all together)  Ventures into creative thinking.  Aware of the real world and is reasonable.  Skilled decision maker.  Avoids making others feel like they are winners or losers.

 Best way is a combination of an Artist and a Craftsman.  Because of creativity and genuine enthusiasm with level headedness, compassion and collaboration.

 Discussion- They learn when they are actively involved in the oral communication process, with lots of dialogue and feedback.  Logic- They learn things presented logically, with a “just the facts”, to-the-plan approach.  Design- They learn when they can see and hear how the “big picture”, or all the parts fit together.  Emotion- They learn with a hands-on approach, one in which the leader is energetic and fired up.

 A Leader Has a Sense of Vision- vision beyond the obvious, long term goals, gets ideas from others, community involvement and sees the “big” picture.  A Leader is Willing to Act- takes charge, makes big decisions, takes responsibility, “actions speak louder than words”.  A Leader Makes Good Decisions- is ethical, does their “homework”, prioritizes and is informed and takes charge.

 A Leader Can Handle Conflict- works well with people, problem solver, turns negatives into positives.  Conflict Management  1. Shut up- be quiet and listen.  2. Listen up- eye contact-shows listening.  3. Hook up- tries to understand the other viewpoint.  4. Chill down- responds without a temper while in the heat of the moment.  A Leader Works to Avoid Pitfalls  Being afraid to fail… don’t be afraid to fail.  Not paying attention to details… the small things.  Forgetting people and the original objectives… thinks of others.  Not listening to others… stays on track and listens.  A Leader Knows how to Motivate- knows what to motivate each person, motivates but means business and shows confidence.

 The 6 Planks of Leadership!!!!  A good leader should pay close attention to the tone of their voice and their nonverbal signals.  Often leadership involves the empowerment of people.  Speech and leadership go hand in hand.  Don’t just make a decision to be done. Make good decisions.  A good leader can’t prevent problems.  Verbal or oral communication is the best communication.  Don’t play it safe. Take risks and chances.  Learning styles concern everybody!  A good leader is concerned about people.  Only certain people find themselves in a position of leadership.
