Ladybug Addition Alexandria V. Smith

Teacher Information Subject- Math Grade Level- 1 Summary- The purpose of this PowerPoint is to give the students the opportunity to learn about basic arithmetic that is addition. Objective- Given a simple addition problem that contains whole numbers the student will be able to find the answer with 100%. Accomplishment- Students will develop an initial understanding of addition will have learned the basis to all math concepts. Standard- CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

What is ADDITION?????? The basis to all math concepts is addition (and subtraction) Addition is when you find the total or the sum of two or more numbers. Addition is when you bring two or more numbers or things together to make a new total. When adding numbers the term that you use to describe the act of adding is plus and when determining the sum of the addition problem the term is equals Addition can be written in sentence form an example would be: Two balls plus Three balls equals Five balls.

Information contd. When adding it is important to remember to make sure that you have successfully counted all of the numbers together and counted them correctly. Addition is a math operation that represents the amount of two sums being brought together to make one sum. When adding two sums it helps to start counting from the bigger number and make your way up.

Answer this problem… 5 + 4 = ? 2 9 6

Correct!

Which one of these is the correct way to write a addition problem in sentence form? Five minus Two equals Three 8 equals 4 Six plus Seven equals Thirteen

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Which of the following addition problems has the incorrect sum? 7 + 3 = 73 2 + 5 = 7 4 + 6 = 10

W2G Way to Go!

INCORRECT  (Try Again)

Summary In the lesson student will have learned how to add using whole numbers. Students will have a full understanding of what the addition is and how it works. The students will walk away with a new way to use numbers and a method to using basic math concepts. The students will also have a clear understanding that math even though it involves numbers can be used in sentence form and they will be able to give a clear example of a addition problem in sentence form.
