The Roman Forum Our Money Project Years 3 and 4, Chaddlewood Primary School

What was the project all about? The children… worked as a team used their imagination to think of a product no one else had made before found out how much things cost and how much they could sell their product(s) for

What was the project all about? The children were asked to think of Roman or Tudor things that they could make and then sell at a special Historical Spring Fayre at the end of term.

Week 1 – The trip Week 1 Find out about how much things cost on our trip tomorrow Decide on the team of people you are going to work with Think about a possible product you could make Start to come up with some ideas in your team Decide on a product or products that you think you could make

Market research… at Mayflower Centre Gift Shop and the Aquarium Gift Shop What products can you buy for less than £1.00? What is the most expensive thing you can find to buy? What would you choose to buy in this shop? How are the products laid out? Are particular things sold in certain places? Is it easy to tell how much things cost? How does the shop keeper give the product to the customer when they have bought it? Are the products good value for money?

Week 2 - preparations Week 2 Find out how much it will cost to make your product Find out how much people are ready to pay for your product Put together a presentation for Mr Mower to explain all about your product in order to get the £20 you need to get started Order the things you need to make your product

Our brilliant Roman Top Trumps and finger puppets Roman top trumps cards. Great fun to play with your friends. Battle against each other to win cards. Materials: card, laminating pouches, colouring pencils. Play with our Roman felt finger puppets to make your own theatre.

Why are we selling it? During our research lots of people said ‘yes’ they would buy them. Top trumps are cheap to make. Both products are great fun to play with your friends when it’s raining. Collect them all.

How we will tell people about it. Posters Letters/ flyers Talk about it in assembly

Thank you for listening and please give us the £20. Ethan Rhian Jay Thomas Gladiators Gladious

Week 3 – planning and making Work out a plan for making your product in your team Start making it!

Week 4 - advertising Week 4 Make leaflets and posters to advertise your product, construct a webpage, speak with classes across the school Make posters to advertise our Historical Spring Fayre Ask people to display your posters

Week 5 – stall plans Week 5 Make your stall Work out a plan of who will be doing what when on your stall Make sure you have enough change to give your customers Run your stall

Week 6 - evaluations Week 6 Work out if you made any profit – if so, you keep it! Think about what you could have done better Tell Mr Mower whether we should do the project again Have a holiday!

What do you think that you learnt during this project? Week 6 Learn how to give change to other people How to work in our group/team How to try and sell everything About money How to add up How to sell stuff on a stall That you have to work hard When people buy stuff it means that we worked hard How to count money How to give change How to make clay balls How to sell products That selling stuff makes money

What did you enjoy the most about the project? Week 6 Everything Selling and making money The fayre Making the products Getting money Selling our products Making a product, and seeing what it looks like afterwards Eating buns! Painting our products Buying products

What did you enjoy least about the project? Week 6 Nothing I enjoyed everything Shouting Lots of people didn’t buy anything Losing money Making purses Not making enough money to cover what we spent Counting Worrying about if we had enough products to sell Waiting for people to buy things

What did you enjoy least about the project? Week 6 Giving change to other people Coming up with ideas to make more money! Learning about prices How long the project lasted for Lowering our prices to sell everything Only having a small amount of money to spend Having something that didn’t sell

Additional comments Week 6 We should have had the fayre only after school It took too long to set up the fayre It was brilliant and fun It was really good I didn’t like waiting for people to come We did not sell as many postcards as we thought we would
