1 Pupil Interviews

2 O We prepared written interviews made up of 13 questions. O We randomly selected 2 children from each class by their place on the register (child 3 and 15) O We asked the children to read the questions and complete the questionnaires. O LB, ND and the older children scribed for any children that needed support

3 The findings O All children like school O They could name lots of things that they liked about school and some dislikes. O Children could say the things that they enjoy and don’t enjoy about their lessons and how we can make them better. O Most children like the homework they are given.

4 The findings O Overall children thought behaviour was good but that there are still some children that need to improve. O The children do feel that poor behaviour is dealt with. O All the children felt that the changes to school had made it a better place O They could name some of these changes

5 The findings O All children feel safe at school O All children felt that they could talk to adults in the school O Children could think of very few other things to improve the school. O Overall children say they like their school very much.

6 About school…. Likes Everything! Love to learn Fun and helpful lessons The teachers Get help when you need it Rewards for being good Assembly Snack time Art/PE/English/Maths Writing Playing with friends Colour of the uniform The way the classes are set up. Dislikes Nothing People messing around in class Boys being nasty People bullying my friends Not having friends – but I do now! Falling over Hurting myself The boys toilets Only getting 1 day on the play equipment Writing in black pen.

7 About lessons…. Likes All lessons are great! Everything! Fun and interactive That we learn – makes me happy Teachers help me The activities the teachers do Sitting down and listening to my teacher Everyone doing good listening. Being shown examples of work Having things explained well Plenty of time to do our work Learning about WW1/Titanic Dislikes Nothing Going home! That teachers tell you what activity to do – be good to choose them. When children shout out Lessons where we DON’T write Having to show my working out in maths. When work is too hard Working in groups Maths/English Reading – it bores me Playing ‘silly soup’

8 Making lessons better O Nothing O More laughing and fun O Make them happy….they are happy O More resources – not everyone has things they need O Choose if you want support or not O Use computers more O Use more videos for information O More work to do O Make the work easier/harder O Longer lessons O More challenging O Do more writing O Not have lessons! O Make ‘silly soup’ about learning.

9 Do you like homework? O Yes O It makes me think about what we did last week O It is good to do work at home O It is fun! O I like that my mum, dad and granddad help me O It is sometimes easy and sometimes hard O It is challenging O No – too hard or needs to be more challenging.

10 Making homework better O Nothing O It is already better O I like it the way it is O It’s fun! O More homework! O More work and harder O More tutoring/support O Make it easier O Sometimes I don’t understand it O Less challenging O More art homework O More fun O More numbers O Tudor homework O Have a blue book instead of a pink book.

11 What do you think about behaviour in school? O Good – everyone is happy O Good O It’s really good O Good but could be better O Some children are naughty but Mrs Barrass sorts it. O Could be a bit better as some children are mean O Some children can be disruptive but they are timed out which helps us

12 What do you think about behaviour in school? O Needs a little more work O Some children mess around and call people names O ‘Name’ doesn’t listen to the teacher but she and Mrs Barrass tells him off. O Half the people need to go back and learn how to behave O Very, very naughty, most boys are naughty. O Naughty children get timed out

13 Improving Behaviour O Nothing O Mrs Barrass is good at sorting it out O Mrs Barrass is strict already O Make the girls and boys happy O Continue to teach children to be good O If good you should get a treat O Make everyone calm O More fun things

14 Improving Behaviour O If children are bad we should tell the teacher O If you are naughty go to Mrs Barrass but if you are good stay in class. O Go to Mrs Barrass and then they will be good O Make sure children got to Mrs Barrass or Diaz if they hurt me

15 Improving Behaviour O More punishments O More rules in school O Don’t let children who break the rules go on trips or do other fun things O Introduce detention O Put naughty children on one table and good children on other tables O Children to miss play time if they are naughty and extended play.

16 Changes to school O Lots of good changes O It’s better O School is a more safe and happy place O Behaviour is a lot better O Targets in place O More trips, clubs and activities O Social dining O Learning detectives O You go to assembly without your teacher

17 Changes to school O Assemblies have changed – they are earlier and you are not rushing at the end of the day. O More polite children – people say ‘good morning’ O Walls have been plastered O Moved red card room O New play equipment O Teachers have all moved classes except Miss Warren! O New meeting room

18 Changes to school O I like Mrs Barrass she is a beautiful lady O I like Mrs Barrass she is a nice lady O Mrs Barrass has made the school even better

19 What do you think to these changes? O School is better by a long run O It’s a lot better O It’s really good here O It’s a good school O Much better – people are kinder

20 Changes you would like O Nothing O School is fun O School is perfect the way it is O It is already better O More rewards, games and trips for good behaviour O More homework O More PE lessons O People putting more effort in to lessons.

21 Changes you would like O Children playing nicely together and being nice O Bigger and better playgrounds O More time on the play equipment O Comfier chairs O New gazeebo O Change of uniform colour O Bring toys in O Trampoline

22 Feeling safe at school O We are safe and sound at school O Yes we are so safe O I feel really safe at school O Before I didn’t but now I do O It feels nice at school O We are away from stranger O Lots of security O I like being at school

23 Talking to adults O We have kind and caring teachers, staff and children. O I can talk to my teacher or TA O I can talk to all adults O They are kind and honest O There are lots of adults to talk to O I can talk to adults because they will listen and help O Yes even if I am a bit shy O Yes especially if we feel sad or someone hurts me.

24 Other comments… O I love this school so much! O It is a very good school O It is a nice place to be O I like my school dinner O PE is awesome O I think we shouldn’t pay for dinner O I wish we all went out as a school more often.
