Emulsion Development Activity C.Sirignano Opera CM - Mizunami - 20/01/2009

CS facility status Activities: 1) Chemicals preparation on-site 2) Films labeling 3) Development ( max 60 CSD /shift) 4) Films drying (24 h + 24 h) Since September we are running with automatic temperature control on the developer tank. Brick development accomplished (2-5 / week) Wireless connection to BMM software running since December

LAB 1 development facility status Activities: 1) Chemicals preparation on-site 2) Films labeling 3) Development ( max 20 ECC / shift) 4) Films drying (24 h + 36 h) September January 5 lines working 5 lines working No temperature control Temperature control HW & SW installed on 6 lines, final configuration under test on line 1 No humidity control in drying rooms Humidity control working since October. Line #6 to be completed Line # 6 under preparation Rolling carpet to be completed

SBAM The “opening” unit is installed and working (10 min /brick full cycle).

SBAM Two “depiling” units installed SW fixed for gridding and data storage (emulsion and lead thickness stored in the DB. Tests on-going on unit #1 using mechanical bricks to achieve robust and fast cycle (< 30 min).

Development statistics 812 bricks developed up to now

Emulsion films quality checks Regular tests on emulsion transparency, thickness, fog density and alpha tracks density. Data shown in the last CM are confirmed no emulsion poisoning inside bricks, no lead surface radioactivity increase.

Chemicals LNGS Developer & Starter bricks Acetic Acid – 2500 bricks Fixer – 2500 bricks Glycerin & Driwell – 2500 bricks NEEDED for 2009 RUN (5000 bricks) Developer & Driwell bricks ready at FUJI firm, order needed by the end of January in order to get the LNGS in May. Quote under preparation for Chemicals available in Europe.

Conclusions & Planning 800 bricks and more than 1500 CSD handled and develop with no major faults We established a working protocol for training (development and quality checks) and the work is going smoothly day by day…. Man power needed (expected 20 – 60 bricks/week from Feb up to Apr) agreed with Mario (1team leader + 2 shifters /week + LNGS experts + external operators) and call done.
