Presentation transcript:

I know this is hard to believe, but it is time for us to start exploring division! We have just really begun to understand what multiplication is and why it is helpful, so now is the perfect time to see how division and multiplication are related! Please continue to help your child study multiplication facts at home, as we will still have timed quizzes every Friday! A great resource that we have been using in class is Math Magician – if you allow your child to use the computer at home, this is a great tool for them to study with! This week we began discussing the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We have had fun going through a couple of experiments (including root beer floats!) to understand the difference in each state of matter and what properties each state has. Next week we will finish up the states of matter and begin exploring force. There will be lots of fun experiments to go with this, too! Our reading this week will focus on the three states of matter. While reading we will pick out non-fiction text features we see and will be practicing answering comprehension questions that require us to use details from the text. For writing we will review the 5 different types of writing, but focus mainly on expository writing. Students will be able to choose at topic that they are an expert on and write a expository paragraph on that topic. August 21 st Newslett er Reading: *Non-fiction text features (heading, text box, and label) Writing: *Expository writing about a topic of choice Spelling: *Short i and Long i (-y, -igh, and i___e) *Make sure students practice words each night LH Quiz on our weekly poem Friday! Coming up in Math & Science… Coming up in Reading & Writing…

August 27 – PTO Meeting at 7pm & Book Fair Preview September 7- No School September 11 – Fitness Day Important Reminders Important Dates Happy Birthday 08/27 – Alexis 08/29 - Anjely o Midterm reports came home yesterday along with assessment scores. Please review these carefully, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Mrs. Langley also included a list of missing work. If you have any of this work at home, please remind your child to turn it in for the sake of his or her grade! o Please help remind your child to put his or her name and number on every homework assignment – there have been too many papers turned in nameless! o 3 rd Grade Walking Club will be on Thursday mornings from 7:30-7:55, weather permitting! o Please remember to check your child’s folder and agenda every night! Friday folders will come home each Friday with the week’s work. Please take all of the work out, review it with your child, and sign off to let us know that you have seen it! Please send empty folders back on Monday with your child! o Copies are VERY limited this year. This means that we are unable to make duplicates of anything students misplace. Encourage your child to stay organized and keep up with his or her work! Donations: Mrs. Hoffman is looking for any old lamps that you might want to get rid of. Size, color, style doesn’t matter. She wants to brighten up the class
