Coming up in Reading & Writing…
I had a blast getting to know all your children this week. The year is going to be amazing. Be sure to check your child’s folder nightly and sign their agenda. Spelling and reading homework will be assigned nightly.
The first few days went very smoothly and we are reviewing all of the great math skills we learned in 2nd grade so that we can build on them in 3rd grade! During the week of July 20th-24th we will talk about the different ways to show numbers:
Standard Form (243)
Expanded Form ( )
Word Form (two hundred forty-three)
We will also review adding/subtracting 3-digit numbers, and place value which will lead us into rounding numbers to the nearest 10s and to the nearest 100s.
The first couple of weeks in science, we will focus on health and taking care of our bodies. We will have a day of Health Rotations on Friday, July 24th. Students will rotate to each of the 3rd grade classrooms to do a hands-on activity with that teacher!
Spelling: Working on short a and long a spelling patterns.
Reading:
Beginning our study of genres with the reviewing of fiction vs. non-fiction. Also learning how to “think a-loud” as a read. This is a strategy we will be using all year.

2. Important Reminders Important Dates Happy Birthday 07/19 – Gavin
Please remember that $10.50 for t-shirts and TIME for Kids Magazine is due July 30th!
On Monday, July 27th we are going to O.T. Sloan Pool for Water Safety with
Mrs. Langston. Mrs. Langley’s homeroom class will go from 8:40-9:50 and Mrs. Hoffman’s homeroom class will go from 9:55-11:05. More information about this will come home on Monday.
3rd Grade Walking Club will be on Thursday mornings from 7:30-7:55, weather permitting!
Please remember to check your child’s folder and agenda every night! Friday folders will come home each Friday with the week’s work. Please take all of the work out, review it with your child, and sign off to let us know that you have seen it! Please send empty folders back on Monday with your child!
