How do mosses get water? A 48-54

How do mosses get water? Mosses and Liverworts are nonvascular cling to damp soil, sheltered rocks, and shady sides of trees No roots but they are anchored in one place by the rhizoids hair like fibers that are like roots, they take in water from their surroundings

Water travels directly from one cell to the next Mosses and Liverworts are seedless plants spores cells that can develop new organisms Seedless vascular plants have long tube like cells that let water and food move easily

What are ferns? leaves called fronds they grow above the ground from and from and underground stem called a rhizome. roots grow out of the rhizome. bottom sides of the fronds are covered with spores.

How do the life cycles of mosses and ferns differ? Reproduce means to make new There are 2 separate stages of reproduction in the life of a moss and liverwort Spore production: this is called asexual reproduction because it only needs one type of cell to reproduce (A52)

Fertilization: this is when a male sex cell joins a female sex cell The stage that requires fertilization is called sexual reproduction. This is when the plant needs both the male sex cell and the female sex cell to reproduce. (A53) The process of going from sexual to asexual reproduction is called alternation of generations.
