Art Works Training 2015

What is Art Works Art Works is art curriculum provided by the Lincoln Prairie PTO to provide enrichment, art exposure, and exploration of new mediums. All art lessons are already planned and prepped. You just need to present and facilitate the material NO ART EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED! We encourage exploration and creativity, not recreating the example.

How it works Room Lead Coordinates schedules monthly presenters Sends out monthly reminders to monthly presenters Forwards questions or concerns to Art Coordinator Monthly Presenter Leads monthly art lesson – can use prepared lessons or make your own! Display the art when completed Distribute or store the old art projects Return folders and art bin to cabinets in teacher work room

Preparing Monthly Art Lesson A week before the lesson review the lesson plan in the Art Works folder your grade level’s bin. Bins can be found in the cabinet in the work room on the first floor Some people like to use Power Point, some do not. The choice is yours. There are example Power Points and instructions on the Art Works Website.

Preparing Monthly Art Lesson Goals of each lesson are: Children will be introduced to a new artist Children will be introduced to a new style of art Children will use of an art medium in new ways Children will use creativity and personal experience to create an art project You can structure your lesson as you wish. There is information about each artist and style in the Art Works folders. You can also do research online or via the library.

Preparing Monthly Art Lesson It is recommended that you practice the project prior to giving the lesson. Occasionally you will need to bring items from home (i.e. still life items, newspaper, etc.) If anything is missing from the Art Works bins please contact the Art Coordinator

Day of Presenation Bring Presentation/Presentation Plan to school Bring sample project Take the example artist painting out of the black portfolio next to supply cabinet Take your grade level art bin and supplies from supply cabinet Cart in work room can be used to transport supplies to classroom.

Lesson Lesson/presentation of artist, their print and style should last about minutes Instruct kids on how to perform project and show example Allow kids to perform project. There is accompanying music that can be played for inspiration during the project. Hang completed projects in area designated by teacher Projects from prior months can be sent home, or collected in a portfolio until the end of the year.

Support Team Non-presenting art assistants can help by: Passing out supplies, helping students with their project Encourage students Help maintain classroom decorum Clean up spills, refill paints, place labels on projects, etc Clean-up after project and place items back in bins Hang up current projects and take down old ones from display.

Clean-up Place all unused items back in the bins Make sure folders and materials are placed back in the bins Make sure the CD is out of the CD player and back in the case Make sure pastels, markers, and chalks are back in their correct containers Clean cups, plates, and brushes. Brushes do best in cold water. Please store them with the tips up Wipe down desks so they can return to a learning environment Return bins to the cabinet in the first floor work room

Finally If you find something isn’t working, doesn’t go well, or generally needs changed contact the Art Coordinator. Feel free to share ideas, presentations or recommendations Have fun! This isn’t about recreating a masterpiece, it is about making a new one! Kids should be encouraged to explore and be creative.
