10 th April What is a Local Area Agreement? “…a new contract between central and local government to deliver the priorities of local people”(ODPM) Part of ten year strategy to build new relationships between local and central government based on mutual trust and responsibility Tackling top shared priorities for Southend – based on the Sustainable Community Strategies Achieved through partnership with greater freedom on how to act - the outcome is what matters LAAs are currently structured around four blocks, which are: Children and young people, Safer and stronger communities, Healthier communities and older people and Economic Development and Enterprise Some key themes of LAA’s –Improve local/central government relations –Improve service delivery –Improve efficiency –Improve partnership working –Enable local authorities to provide better leadership

10 th April Initiation – April 06 Appoint Block leads and programme / project management leads. Establish SCS/ LAA Managment Group, which will need to meet every 2/3 weeks. Membership to include LSP leads, Blocks leads and programme management representative. Establish Block development teams with participants from relevant partner organisations. Agree overall programme timetable including LSP and GO East meetings. How do we develop the SCS and LAA?
