10th Grade English – Mrs. Grillo Welcome...

“Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave.” ~ Henry Peter Brougham

Fire Drill Procedure Behaviour leaving the classroom NO CELL PHONES, I PODS or HATS!!!!! Where to exit the school Where to meet Coming back to class after the drill Find out in each class you have

Signing IN and OUT If you arrive late to class you must have signed in at the office first. I can check on the computerized attendance system. If you arrive late for class three times without a valid excuse it will be considered an unexcused absence and detention will be given and a phone call home made. If you are leaving school during this class you MUST have a sign out slip from your homeroom teacher. Don’t bring ME a note from your parent.

No Scent Policy at LHHS It’s easy, no perfume/cologne or any heavily scented product allowed! Some people have serious chemical sensitivities! Your teacher is allergic to perfume and has a keen sense of smell!

Washroom Breaks During 5 or 10 minute break If you need to go during class time, you MUST have your AGENDA SIGNED by your teacher!!

During announcements When you hear that announcement bell sound, that is your cue to be quiet!

Open House/Meet the Teacher Thursday September 23 rd, 7 p.m. Give your parents / guardian your timetable for them to follow. First Parent Teacher Interviews –Thursday evening November 25 th –Friday morning November 26 th (no school for students this day)

Passing Grade 60% for all levels / courses for grades 9 through 12 There will NOT be exemptions in English.

Other matters / reminders No book bags - these are to be in lockers NO CELL PHONES during instructional time, i-pods, personal entertainment devices, personal computers, etc. They will be taken; sent to the office. Carry your AGENDA all the time and use it for organizing!

Bullying / Harassment ZERO tolerance ~ Tell me!! I want to know. I WILL listen and act upon it! Everyone should feel safe at LHHS. PLEASE tell an adult in the building if you or someone you know is being bullied. It’s serious!

Garbage ~ Pile up! STASH YOLUR TRASH!! Pick up after yourself ALWAYS! Clean up your garbage and recycle: there is a garbage can and paper recycling by the door and a garbage can by my desk. Leave this classroom looking neat. Check around you and pick it up. If everybody picks up one thing, the floor will be clean for others.

Detention Halls Usually Noon hour. Detention is assigned for misbehaviour. If you miss one you will be assigned two. If you miss one of those you can expect to see your vice-principal. This year we have a LEARNING LAB where you may be sent as well. This is for failure to complete classwork, homework, or an assignment. If you miss one of these you will be immediately referred to your VP.

If you are detained by your teacher and late for this class… PLEASE ask your teacher to write a quick note in your agenda. Bring this note to class to avoid being marked as late.

Yes! We have a DRESS CODE… There are posters in each classroom outlining what’s appropriate attire for our building. If you are wearing something offensive or inappropriate, you will be asked to change.

Materials You need materials for class! DON’T show up empty-handed! Bring your binder, pens and pencils, paper, highlighters, and sticky notes. Bring a novel EVERY DAY for independent reading! I will let you know ahead of time if you’ll need anything out of the ordinary. If you need to go back to your locker after the bell you will be marked late!
