Conquered and controlled by the “Mongols” or (Tatars, Golden Horde) in Russian Princes fought to win back land. Russian princes called “czars” began to rule in the 1600’s. Repelled invasion led by French Emperor Napoleon in 1800’s

RUSSIAN HISTORY People who protested communism sent to the Siberian Labor camps or jail. All farmland controlled by government--huge state farms called collectives. (peasant run farms) Industry controlled by government. All farms and industry had specific amounts they were to produce--5 Year Plans.

COMMUNISM COMES TO AN END IN RUSSIA 1980’S Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev established “GLASNOST”. PERESTROIKA established in RUSSIA in 1980’s. BALTIC REPUBLICS declare independence Free Elections are held in 1991 BORIS YELTSIN elected as President of Russian Republic. Gorbachev resigns, states the “SOVIET UNION is no more!”

RUSSIA UNDER VLADIMIR PUTIN ELECTED PRESIDENT IN 2000 TOOK AWAY SOME DEMOCRATIC REFORMS WORKED TO TAKE BACK CHECHNYA AND COMBAT TERRORISM RUSSIA BECOMING MORE ACTIVE IN WORLD AFFAIRS. (MIDDLE EAST)
