How to be an Awesome Vice President Abbey Empfield

Specific Instructions Be there to support and fill in for your president Fill out your clubs award packet Oversee the committee chairs (or make some if you need them)

Filling in for the President

Helping out the President This will vary greatly depending on the demographics of your club Some presidents will need more help and want you to step in more frequently than others

The Awards Packet

What? The awards packet is a compilation of about two dozen applications for awards The district will determine the winners and announce them at DCON

Who? The vice president is responsible for nominating individuals from the club and filling out the applications This will be done with the help of your other club officers

When? The district should send out the awards packet in November It will be due back to the district office in the beginning of January

Why? Your club works hard throughout the year and they deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments

How? Make a schedule and stick to it! Delegate the responsibilities (You should not have to write every single essay) Know that while you are encouraged to fill out as many applications as possible, you are not required to complete them all

Committee Chairs

How many of you have committee chairs in place at your home club?

How many of you think your committee chairs are being effectively utilized?

Every club is unique You need to determine where it is necessary to have a committee chair Having to many can be just as bad as not having enough

How to work efficiently Communication is key Be approachable Have well defined roles

Some possible chair ideas Service Social Historian Large Scale Service Projects Technology K Family Public Relations Leadership

Advice “Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do, and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.” -George S. Patton

Tips

Be Assertive Don’t be afraid to check up on the chairs and require them to provide you with their progress. It might sound bossy, but it will get things done.

Be flexible You are taking on a very open ended role. It will require you to communicate well with many different individuals and organizations.

Get Connected When you have the opportunity to network in your community, take it. This is a great way to grow the influence you have on the community.

Ask for Help Bad news does not get better with time. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Be Creative! The beauty of this position is that you can make it whatever you want it to be. Feel free to create new events, add new chairs, or find new service partners.
