The Scientific Method El metodo cientifico
Steps in the Scientific Method Step 1: Ask a Question Step 2: Form a Hypothesis Step 3: Develop a Procedure Step 4: Gather Data Step 5: Draw a Conclusion
Ask a Question What do you want to learn about? What happens to ice in the sun? Does a plant grow faster in the sun or in the shade?
Form a Hypothesis The ice will melt faster in the sun. Make a prediction about what you think will happen. The ice will melt faster in the sun. The plant will grow better in the sun than in the shade
Develop a Procedure Step 1: Make ice cubes Make a plan that says what steps you are going to take and what materials you will use: Step 1: Make ice cubes Step 2: Put one set of ice cubes in the sun and one in the shade. Step 3: Measure the time it takes the ice to melt.
Gather Data Make a note of what happens. Do more than one trial. Write down the time it takes ice to melt. Write down how many inches a plant grows.
Repeated tests make your results more reliable. Trials Each “trial” means one test. When you retest, you will have more than one trial. Repeated tests make your results more reliable. Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Height Weight
Draw a Conclusion What does the evidence (your data) tell you about what is happening? Was your hypothesis right or wrong?
