1 Aim: How do scientists solve problems? Do Now: Write down two things you do when you are trying to answer a question.

2 The Scientific Method Used by scientists to answer questions they are trying to solve. Called a method because it is a series of steps that stays the same every time it is used.

3 Steps of the Scientific Method 1.Make observations. 2.Ask a question based on the observations. 3.Collect background information. 4.Create a hypothesis (an educated guess). 5.Develop an experiment. 6.Collect and analyze data. 7.Form a conclusion. 8.Repeat.

4 Activity 1.Create a diagram showing the steps of the scientific method. 2.Begin to think about how you can use the scientific method to solve a question you can answer at home. Example: how does salt affect the rate at which ice melts?
