S.H.I.N.E. º S º S tand up to put-downs, º H º H elp those who are being bullied, º I º I nform adults when I need to, º N º N ever use my computer or cell phone to hurt others, º E º E ncourage my friends to stand up against bullying too.

Playful Teasing Teaser and person being teased can easily swap roles Maintain dignity Pokes fun in lighthearted manner, meant to entertain both parties Stops when the other person objects or becomes upset Hurtful Taunting Imbalanced, one person has the power during the interaction Intended to harm Involves humiliating or cruel comments thinly disguised as jokes Continues when the target becomes upset or says, “Stop”

Physical bullying means: Hitting, kicking, or pushing someone...or even just threatening to do it Stealing, hiding or ruining someone's things Making someone do things he or she doesn’t want to do Verbal bullying means: Name-calling Teasing Insulting Spreading lies or rumors about someone What Does Bullying Look Like?

Socially means: –is when a bully excludes someone from a group on purpose. It also includes a bully spreading rumors, and also making fun of someone by pointing out their differences. Intimidation means: –is when a bully threatens someone else and frightens that person enough to make him or her do what the bully wants. What Does Bullying Look Like?

Is it fair? How does it feel? Does it keep happening? RECOGNIZE the bullying

Is it safe for me to speak out assertively? Say, “STOP!” Encourage other bystanders to speak out REFUSE to be bullied or let others be bullied

1. Tell the nearest adult that you trust 2. Talk with your parents about what has happened REPORT the bullying

Be a Hero Encourage other bystanders to help stop the bullying incident by being assertive. Make friends with someone who continually gets picked on. Report it or send someone to a trusted adult. You are a key player in stopping bullying.
