Introduction: Have you ever heard about William Clark and Meriwether Lewis? If you didn’t you got a lot of new information coming to you. First, Meriwether Lewis was born in August 1, William Clark was born in August 1, Thomas Jefferson selected them to explore the recently purchased Louisiana Territory in 1805

WILLIAM CLARK  William Clark was born in August 18, 1774  On the journey he navigated and charted maps of the new territory  William died on September 1, 1838 at St. Louis, Missouri he was 68 when he died

Meriwether Lewis  Meriwether was a Captain.  On the journey he studied nature and documented many new scientific discoveries along the expedition.  Lewis died in October 11, 1809 in Tennessee

The Louisiana Purchase – the key event that led to the expedition  The Louisiana Purchase doubled America and help secure territory from Great Britain and Spain.

More than 31 people and 1 dog made up the Corps of Discovery that traveled the new territory.

Native Americans During the expedition they encountered many Indian tribes and the potential for danger was always present.

Native Americans  Lewis and Clark also met some other Native Americans who were more friendly than others.

Sacagawea – acted as a guide and helped to ease relations with local Indian tribes.

Thomas Jefferson  Thomas Jefferson, the 3 rd U.S President and arranged for the Louisiana Purchase from France that launched the great Westward Expansion. Important People

Sacagawea and Toussaint  Sacagawea assisted Lewis and Clark as a guide and translator on the exploration. Sacagawea was married to Toussaint who also helped Lewis and Clark.  Sacagawea also made the Native Americans believe that the Americans were friendly.
