Bellwork (do this on your own paper for today…) 1.Explain how we use soap to clean dishes. 2.Describe what happens when you mix dish soap with water. 3.Predict what YOU THINK would happen if you mixed dish soap with milk.

Milk Kaleidoscope Lab When you go to your lab station, you should have the following materials: 3 petri dish halves Graduated cylinder One beaker each of water, 2% milk, whole milk Pipettes (one in each beaker) Beaker of soap with pipette * Mr. Tyler will have the dyes when you are ready

Milk Kaleidoscope Lab 1.Use pipettes to measure 25mL water and pour into a petri dish 2.Repeat for 2% and whole milk 3.Let dishes sit for 1 minute 4.Add one drop of each color of dye to each dish; one drop in each corner (This can stain clothes and fingers! Be careful!) Ex 

Milk Kaleidoscope Lab 5. Record your observations after adding the dye. 6. Add one drop of soap to each dish and observe for a few minutes (one dish at a time…) 7. Record your observations for each dish. 8. Clean and dry your equipment when you finish.

Observations What are observations? What are things we can observe? What kinds of observations should we make for this lab?

Safety Measures? What safety measures do we need to follow for this lab?

Post-Lab (WTQ) 1.Describe what happened when you added the dye to each dish. 2.Describe what happened when you added the dish soap to each dish. 3.Explain why YOU THINK this happened to the milk when you added the soap. 4.Predict what other liquids would have the same reaction to the soap as the milk.
