1 Lab STRAP Tape description of lab STRAP into the front cover of your notebook Density of solids and liquids lab

2 STARTING QUESTION- How can I predict whether a solid or liquid will sink or float when I add it to water? Tests- Look at the data table and listen to teacher’s verbal instructions and write a summary here Density of solids and liquids

3 1. Measure the length, width, and height of each of the solid objects in cm. Record in data table. 2. Calculate volume of solids using formula: Volume=length x width x height Record this in data table. 3. Mass each solid on balance in grams. Record. 4. Fill a 250 ml beaker with 100 ml water. 5. Separately, drop each solid in water. Record whether it sinks or floats. Procedure for Solids

4 1.Zero a graduated cylinder on a balance. 2.Pour in 10 ml of first liquid. Record mass in your data table. 3.Measure 100ml of water in a 250 ml beaker. 4.Pour liquid into water. 5.Wash out graduated cylinder and repeat steps 1-4 for each liquid. Use the same beaker of water for each trial. 6.Record whether it sinks or floats in data table. 7.Clean up your lab materials and station. Procedure for Liquids
