If you have multiple pages, please write you first name, last name, and period in the top right corner. If you are missing a bellwork you can make them up during tutorial. 2.What is the dependent variable in your brine shrimp experiment? 3.What safety procedures will you have to follow for setting up you brine shrimp experiment? 4.Respect points: why are they called “brine” shrimp. How long have brine shrimp been on planet earth?

Notes to self about brine shrimp lab Refill water with distilled water frequently Label the different classes sections for their beakers very clearly Emphasize that they only need to use a little bit of their test variable!!!! Make sure they rinse out the soap in their beakers really well

Write down the names of people in your group If your partner isn’t here, remember to write their name down! Make sure your paper is finished while clipboard being passed around

Important things to remember You only need a little bit of the test variable You guys are the scientists! This is your experiment! You make the decisions Keep your lab worksheet!

Get two beakers that are the same size and wash them well, make sure to rinse them well! Measure 100 mL of normal salt water into each beaker. Use your graduated cylinder! Label your beakers so you can tell the control and the test beakers apart. Include your initials or a picture so you can identify your beakers. Arrange your test variable in one beaker. Get 2 small cups of eggs and add one cup of eggs to each beaker. Stir well. Place beakers on blue cart Today’s Set Up Be Sure to Treat Each Beaker Alike, except for your test variable

Data Table Date 9/2 Control 24 17 Avg = 19 Test 34 45 Avg = 38 Observations Length, color, shape, energy level, etc.

Let all eggs settle to the bottom. Start with Control Beaker, suck up 2 droppers full of saltwater & shrimp. Squirt into dish. Count all hatched or hatching shrimp. Record in Data Table. Empty dish in trash. Continue to count a total of 3 dishes for the Control. Record and AVERAGE the 3 numbers. Use same procedure for Test Beaker, count 3 dishes and AVERAGE the 3 numbers. Record all counts and average in Data Table. Clean Up: Rinse out eyedropper & dish, put on paper towel. Leave station neat, as you found it.
