3. Density Lab: Materials Graduated cylinder (wider mouth works better) Food coloring Cups/small beakers Stirrers Safety goggles Dish soap* (Dawn blue works best) Honey* Light Karo syrup Rubbing alcohol Vegetable oil* Water Baby oil* Do not add food coloring

4. Density Lab: Procedure Mass the beaker and record. Measure the same amount (20 – 50 mL) of each liquid into a beaker, one liquid at a time. Mass the liquid in the beaker. Subtract the mass of the beaker to get the mass of the liquid. Record on chart. Calculate the density of each liquid. Record. SLOWLY and carefully pour the liquid with the greatest density into the cylinder. Pour into the center of the cylinder trying not to touch the sides of the cylinder. Continue SLOWLY pouring each liquid into the cylinder in order of greatest to least density.
