Submit news items, opinion pieces and requests for photos The News and Events Hub is the easiest way to get your news out and about. The process for promoting news and following up leads is outlined on the following pages. To register a news item, follow the steps below: Step 1: Go to Faculty of Business and Economics – News – More News Step 2: This will take you to News and Events at Step 3: Click on Register a news item Step 4: The Media and Communication Officer will follow up your request

Submit a news item The Media and Communication Officer (MCO) will discuss submission with the person who lodged the request to determine if it is best suited to an internal audience (Faculty), a wider university audience (Web and Monash Memo) or external audience (newspapers and radio – Monash Media Office).

Submit news for faculty audience Submit request via hub or, if preferred, discuss with MCO MCO determines if suitable image is available to accompany news item MCO advises if professional photographer is required. Will require 5 days notice MCO writes news item or article MCO sends draft to originator/source for approval Communication Manager (MaRG) determines suitability for web, BusEco Bulletin or both Faculty distribution

Submit for wider University audience Some submissions will be suitable for both faculty and wider university audience. Submit request via hub or, if preferred, discuss with MCO MCO will discuss placement of item with University’s Media Office to determine suitability Media Office will contact originator/source to put their own angle to story (4-12 weeks) Media Office will inform MCO of intention to use story or not. MCO will discuss with source. If accepted, news item published in Monash Memo, Monash magazine or web

Submit news for wider public – newspapers and radio All faculties are required to submit external news items through the University Media Office for release Submit request via hub or, if preferred, discuss with MCO MCO will contact source to discuss suitability and gather details Media Office will contact originator/source to put their own angle to story (4-12 weeks) Media Office will inform MCO of intention to use story or not. MCO will discuss with source. Publication in newspaper or industry journal. Journalist may contact source for further details.

Submit an Opinion Piece Register opinion piece via the hub or, if preferred, discuss with MCO MCO will follow up via phone or MCO will assist in editing opinion piece to meet newspaper requirements ( words) MCO will send final draft to originator/ source for final approval MCO will pitch final piece to selected media outlets Publication in newspaper. Lead time may be up to 5 months. MCO will discuss feedback, if given, with originator

Submit a photography request What do I need? Book a professional photographer if you require: high resolution images images suitable for print more than 5 photos The MCO is available to take photos if you require: low resolution images for web less than 5 photos Register request via hub Discuss requirements and determine if professional photographer required MCO will supply list of professional photographers and contact details Book photographer at least ten days in advance. Prepare full brief. Images usually available in seven working days. Payment is responsibility of department.
