Scones

Aims of the Lesson We will learn today of the importance of careful measuring using spoons, scales and measuring jugs. We will learn to use the oven safely.

Ingredients 200g Self Raising flour 1 x 5ml spoon baking powder 1 x 15ml spoon sugar 50g margarine Pinch salt 150ml milk 25g sultanas or grated apple

Method – Step 1 Set oven to 200 C. Sieve flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and salt.

Method – Step 2 Add margarine and chop up with a knife. Rub in marg with fingertips until your mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Add sultanas or apple if using.

Method – Step 3 Add milk gradually and mix, using a knife, until all ingredients are combined. Turn mixture out onto a lightly floured surface.

Method – Step 4 Knead lightly on the floured surface. Roll or press out to approx 2cm thick.

Method – Step 5 Cut into rounds. Place on baking tray in the centre of the oven and bake for 10 mins until golden.

Method – Step 6 Using oven gloves remove from oven and place on a wire tray to cool.
